I saw a guy on you-tube do this and it turns out pretty good if you are looking for a ribbon border or such .

I've tried to do that and just can't get it to turn out.  I think one of the members here did this or something similar about the time I joined up.

Yeah, I saw that video.  I took a stab at it, and for the life of me, couldn't get it.  I will need to try again.

Seems to me the " trick " is the width of the lay - out lines . This one was .190 and worked , I did another with a full 1/4 inch ( .250 ) lay -out and it didn't turn out as well . Of course the size of beveler  is going to make a difference too . 203 was what I used .

yup the width, in looking at mine i just realize the width of the lay out lines is about equal to the width of the camo tool, i will try a few later and see if there is a correlation that would make sense. I just went with what seemed right I too would like to know a secret tip to make it easier to plan.

There might be some formula  ,  may just depend on playing with what tools one has .

Yep, that's what I saw.

If you figure out a formula, I'm all ears.

I really like the ropes top and bottom of the right hand side on the bottom piece, too.  Can't do that one, either.

its how you use the beveler, just at the point where the two camo stamp impressions come together at the vee, on this you can see i used a cross hatch beveler to make the impression

Dang Chuck,  I M looking at what you did and am thinking it is straight forward. Then I make mine look like piggy poo lol I have a huge amount of practice ahead of me

i like those that one on the bottom would make a nice border.  i need more stamps or more time or something lol.

You must have been something because that impression doesn't look at all like the stamp. The stamp looks more open than the cross bars in the impression.

Spacing your letters

The traditional method is to set the letter stamp adjacent to the other stamp

like this

 

This in my opinion leaves a gap in between the letters

I place the edge of the stamp next to letter 

look at the two examples

upper is the traditional method

lower is the way I do it

the space is about a 1/16” (1.58mm). Which is not a lot but it looks better to me

To my eye, I too prefer the proportional spaceing we get generally with computer (or typesetting) letters, rather than the monospacing a typewritter delivers.
