water proofing leather hat

what does everyone recommend using on a leather hat to help keep water proof & does not change the shape if some items can do that.

Try rubbing in vaseline

Blackrocks Leather N' Rich has worked on mine for a couple of years now. Been rained on a few times and wipes/dries right off.

Lots of topic areas (forums).  Pick the ones that seem to fit and fire away!  Descriptions of each on the home page.

I make leather cozies for my fruit fly traps - just plastic containers with diluted vinegar, which frequently  get wet. To keep waterproof, I apply several layers of diluted resolene,  then wax and then petroleum jelly, buffing each thoroughly. It  works well and no excessive shine either.

I think I might be tempted to use a product like a Sno-Seal, used to waterproof hiking boots and other leather outdoor equipment; especially if it'll be worn for extended periods through rain and weather.  Adding any product can change coloration (usually darkening), and could potentially cause leather to bend or flex, so it's always advisable to test it first in an inconspicuous place.

So, I wore my hat out in the rain today and meant to grab a picture of how well the water beads up. I waited too long but there's 1 big blob left on the right side. I was inside maybe 7 or 8 minutes. I looked at it when I first walked in and it was beaded all up with rain. I probably haven't hit it with anything for  close to a year.

thanks letting me see just hopping can do & not have to keep putting on not sure of one needs to do it every few months or if once on is good to go thanks again for the help

I've found in this test that Vaseline will give some water-proofing . Put it on dry leather and rub it in good
