Members BattleAx Posted July 17 Members Report Posted July 17 I picked up this machine in Dillsburg PA from Joey Sewing Machine needed to be cleaned up but was a really good deal. I contacted Eli over at Landis Machine Co for a few parts a brass shuttle I sent him the old one and he sent a working one. Had it sewing but there was an issue of it breaking the thread. I sent the machine to Eli and he had to replace a few parts inside the machine it sews like a champ very tight stitch I love this old machine. I picked up the machine last Friday and over the weekend had the wife help me install the head. Eli has a whole shop full of old Landis 16 and other very cool old industrial sewing machines. Eli is a very cool old man 82 and still working on these big machines. It was so cool to meet him and see his shop. I have photos of the old machines I will post later. I live in Georgetown SC.. Members dikman Posted July 17 Members Report Posted July 17 Now that is COOL! Pretty clever, you taking the pics while your "willing" helper does the work. Incidentally, I like the anvil stand, that's also . Quote Machines wot I have - Singer 51W59; Singer 331K4; Seiko STH-8BLD; Pfaff 335; CB4500. Chinese shoe patcher; Singer 201K (old hand crank)
Members jrdunn Posted July 18 Members Report Posted July 18 A bit off topic: I just wonder what your neighbors thought your were up to peeking in your window?? Cool old machine! Wish I had one. Jim Quote
Members mbnaegle Posted July 18 Members Report Posted July 18 Nice! My dad had a 16 when he was doing saddle and harness work and really liked it. Eli's a good man. Quote
Members Mulesaw Posted July 18 Members Report Posted July 18 Beautiful machine! There is just something about those big nickel plated flywheels that look so good. And keeping it inside the house will give the rest of the family a chance to hear the sound of you using it Quote
Members Cumberland Highpower Posted July 18 Members Report Posted July 18 (edited) Got the job done. If Eli's 82 everyone better take note and get those parts you always wanted... I've got a 16 and hardly ever use it, but I just bought it because I liked how it looked. Still find it unique. Sort of like that Farmall Super C all restored up in front of your local produce/greenhouse/farmers market type store. Edited July 18 by Cumberland Highpower Quote
Members FDC Posted yesterday at 06:28 AM Members Report Posted yesterday at 06:28 AM I have a "thing" for these old Landis machines. Now I need a 16... I like the safety sandals, they say "This will work out perfectly..." and it sure looks like it did! Nice machine and space! Quote
Members Tastech Posted yesterday at 11:44 AM Members Report Posted yesterday at 11:44 AM What a grand old lady . The machine i mean .lol Did anyone else notice the wear on the outer foot pedal in photo 5 ? That probably took 30-40 years to get it like that . When i look at old machines like that i can't help wonder . Some one has made a living using it , bought a house and raised a family sent their kids to college and retired . The machine gets passed to a new worthy owner and the cycle starts again . I am sure the old girl has heard laughter and felt tears and no doubt being a Landis many a curse word has been spoken to it and in its presence . Still going though and by the looks of it still loved. makes me smile Quote
MikeRock Posted 15 hours ago Report Posted 15 hours ago Nicely done. I like the steel toed sandles too!! Love my Landis Nr.1. God bless. Quote

It makes me feel privileged, that today, many of us are able to do something for a hobby, that was once the bread and butter for a family. Genuine wear adds a certain beauty to many things.
