Wizcrafts Report post Posted April 3, 2024 9 hours ago, BelleH said: I have a small project and just purchased some Coats & Clark Upholstery thread. The specs say the weight is 15 lbs. What size needle should I use with this weight of thread. The Coats site (and chat) were not helpful. Thanks! A short Google search found an answer on the Sailrite website. They sell Coat and Clark 3 ply Upholstery thread and make it plain that it is Tex 70. This is one of the lighter bonded nylon threads used in leather work. It calls for a #18/110 needle. Tex 70 is also known as #69 bonded thread. It has a breaking strength of 10 to 11 pounds depending on the brand and its age. Older thread tends to snap sooner than fresh thread. It is generally used to sew wallet interiors together, or light weight upholstery seams that aren't under a lot of stress.
BelleH Report post Posted April 3, 2024 Thank you Wizcrafts. I had done numerous internet searches and I sailrite didn't come up, but I had used a different search engine. Now I'm embarrassed because I should have seen that info. Anyway, I just did a test. I just tried searching with it again with the other search engine and sailrite didn't come up. But then I repeated it with a Google search, and there it was! Regardless, I now have my answer. Thank you again.
thenrie Report post Posted June 23, 2024 Hey Wizcrafts, thought I'd let you know that the links on this thread for the needle and thread size charts are linking to car insurance ads and "page not found" messages.

I checked every link I saw in all of the pages in this topic and none went to car insurance pages. There was a 404 not found on a forum though. This was an old topic that started in 2011. Dead links and redirects can be expected when they go to outside websites. When you send the posts and links, let me know your operating system and browser make and version. Also, let me know about any anti-virus or anti-malware program you are running.
ElfLeather Report post Posted December 31, 2024 (edited) I'm shopping for system 34 needles and kinda scratching my head. The thread exchange has a lot of options, or maybe not? Does AKA mean all of these needle systems are identical? Non-identical but interchangeable sytems? or the specific needles fit each of these distinct systems? TonyGreen3455 Report post Posted December 31, 2024 (edited) Needles again Having CB3500 clone - can I find 794 needles for sewing leather smaller, than size 160LR? 794 140LR - does it exist at all? Otherwise - sewing with 794R size 140 - it's not counted it as a "heavy" sewing, therefore we can use regular R point needles?
