Members DS STRAPS Posted October 5, 2015 Members Report Posted October 5, 2015 Just an update, Added the handles to the bag. Also worked on the zipper patch/welt/whatever. Final assembly will be next with, possibly, a zippered interior pocket... Thanks for looking Chris Love the zipper design you used, I was wondering what the zipper would look like since all I have seen is the zipper sewn in before stitching up leather....Very nice! Quote
Members MonicaJacobson Posted October 5, 2015 Members Report Posted October 5, 2015 It's looking great. Can't wait to see how it gets installed. Quote
Members DrmCa Posted October 6, 2015 Members Report Posted October 6, 2015 Did you rivet the handle straps to the body? Quote
Members 9tpi Posted October 7, 2015 Author Members Report Posted October 7, 2015 Did you rivet the handle straps to the body? No rivets on this bag as of yet. If I built it correctly there should be no unnecessary stress on the bag components that will require the use of rivets. Quote
Members Gregspitz Posted October 7, 2015 Members Report Posted October 7, 2015 that is awesome...wish my shop looked that neat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote

Members 9tpi Posted October 17, 2015 Author Members Report Posted October 17, 2015 Hello everyone, So i guess this bag is pretty much complete. Handles are on, zipper installed as well as the lining. I still need to feed it with a bit of conditioner and brig up the luster with a horse hair brush. I may source some brass "feet" for the bottom of the bag before i begin to use it daily.. And the interior. Went with an ecru canvas lining as I plan to really use this bag. I also didn't want to use a synthetic fiber. Other linings or materials did not seem up to the task. Thanks for looking. Chris Quote
Members MonicaJacobson Posted October 17, 2015 Members Report Posted October 17, 2015 Very, very nice. I'm jealous. I want one. Quote
Members alamp1360 Posted October 17, 2015 Members Report Posted October 17, 2015 That's really impressive, thanks for showing! The stiching must have taken a very long time. And the mounting of the zipper would be an impossible task for me Just a few questions: Did you put anything on the flesh side of the leather to "stiffen" the bag? Or is the leather thick enough? Did you put some cardboard on the bottom? And did you do the design as well? Greetings! Quote

Especially the sections that have two rows of stitching; it was a bit mind numbing at times. I didn't log my hours but i imagine it's over 15 from first cut to final stitch. I did not add anything to the flesh side. I'm not sure how to do that correctly and did not want to "practice" on this particular bag. The leather is 5oz and is quite dense feeling. I also did not add anything to the bottom internally/between the bag and the lining. However if i find it does require something i will add an insert. The design is my own. However if i ever make another i will change a few things . Very, very nice. I'm jealous. I want one. Thanks Monica. I was checking out your blog the other day. Your stuff is lovely. I love the violin bag. nice Thank you. Quote
Members jhstong Posted October 17, 2015 Members Report Posted October 17, 2015 This is so great. It would take me double the time and it'd look half as good. You should sell the instructions with patterns for this bag! I'd totally buy that. Or the bag itself haha. Quote
