Looking for a 1-1/4" veiner to duplicate a pattern

Recommended Posts

Hey folks, I am repairing an old saddle a fellow had it in his garage and let a dog chew on it. So, I am replacing a the seat and the right front jockey and I am hoping to duplicate the stamping. It's not too complicated, but I need a veiner that measures 1.25" X .25" (1-1/4" X 1/4"). I also needed a border stamp that I can't find, but I was able to make a passable stamp to duplicate it. I have attached a photo of the stamping I'm trying to duplicate. The flower petals are made using a veiner.

I would also like to find the flower center used in this stamping, as well as the rose stamp used on the pattern corners.

I wouldn't want to get your hopes up, but I may have that veiner. I will look when I get home tonight. I have a couple of big ones.

Here are some Tandy flower stamps that are pretty close to the one in the center of the flower:

The J820, which is still available, likely comes the closest.

Okay,  just for fun, I was browsing on E-bay, and found this listing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Craftool-Leather-Craft-Stamp-Tools-12-Lot-Vintage-343-701-702-707-709-710-716/173015941666?hash=item28488dc222:g:AdcAAOSw0wRaJbNl

3 of the last 4 tools at the end of the row may be just what you are looking for!! :yeah:

Actually at that first link, there is a link among the pictures that is a match as far as I can tell.

It's apparently a Tandy J787, but it says it's 5/8", is that too large?

The Tandy V955 looks pretty close to the veiner you need.

Sorry I didn't keep up with this thread. I forgot I even started it.

Anyway, I found most of the stamps I needed at Tandy, or close approximations. I bought a set of Chinese-made veiners, but wasn't real happy with them. I made the one stamp I could not find and it actually worked pretty well.

I can't seem to get photos to upload to this site, so here's a link where I wrote the saddle repairs up on my blog:
