New handmade watch strap. How to call this leather?

Recommended Posts

I just made a new watch strap and I wonder if this leather has some kind of generic name. I am located in South america so I can't call it by the vendor's name, it wouldn't say anything.

Is it even top grain? Almost looks like a finished split. But I'm not sure about these things. Curious to know myself.

I've been told on another forum that it is called waxed flesh leather, reverse leather or roughout leather.

roughout leather is what I would call it.

Not sure but do you know if it is oil-tanned? That's what it looks like to me but I haven't had enough experience to be sure. Good job on it, though!

Looks like a split to me.  Appears to have a suede-like texture to it.

Great work panchoskywalker. I recently made a watch strap with the flesh side of a guitar strap. Rubbed some beeswax on it and it totally changed the look. Here's a pic in case you want to experiment.

In fact it is suede on the other side.
