Members Reddturtle Posted May 27, 2018 Members Report Posted May 27, 2018 (edited) I just inherited this harness stitcher. My grandfather has had it since the 40s, if not earlier and used it regularly on the farm. So far all I know about it is it was made around 1919 by Bauer Machine Company, Jefferson Ind. There are a few pieces missing, but still usable. Needs a good cleaning and might repaint it to it's original color...black with gold pin striping. Need any info on manuals and IF and where I can get any of the missing parts. I do have the stand for it. Edited May 27, 2018 by Reddturtle Up ld pic Quote
Members YinTx Posted May 27, 2018 Members Report Posted May 27, 2018 Thats a neat one, I don't recall seeing that one before. Several folks around here work on restoring these machines, so hopefully they will pipe in with some useful info, manuals, parts etc for you! Hope you share the final version when you are all done with it! YinTx Quote

Evo160K Posted May 28, 2018 Report Posted May 28, 2018 Some of these may be useful. The first link is offering instruction and parts manual for the Bauer. http://pages.sewing-machine-manuals.com/173/PictPage/3923886827.html http://leatherworker.net/forum/topic/78217-bauer-1919-harness-machine/ Quote

Thx Load image for editing Crop to remove unnecessary details Resize (reduce) dimensions to something suitable for a web page (e.g., 400x600, 600x800) If reducing the size dulls the sharpness, check the box to sharpen (set to 15%) on the adjustments tab page. If you still need more reduction, use the Settings slider on the right side of the Output Format selection on the main page to reduce the quality of the jpg. I find 75% quality is virtually unnoticeable on web page size images. Quote
Members Reddturtle Posted June 3, 2018 Author Members Report Posted June 3, 2018 I saw some post on the Bauer machine on here from Nov 2017. I guess they are kind of rare. Saw the pic of the 1909 one. Looks just like mine, down to the gold pin stripping. I may not be missing parts after all. I can make extra bobbins myself and have new shuttle boat/s made at a friends machine shop if need to. Have a few leeds on needles. Once I get solid info on them, I will pass that info to the few others who have these beasts. Quote
Evo160K Posted June 4, 2018 Report Posted June 4, 2018 Reddturtle, Do you bet on long shots? Here's one - several months ago I attended a leather show in Jeffersonville, Indiana, home of the former Bauer Sewing Machine Co., and happened to meet Mr. Greg Sartor, President of Silver Creek Leather Company, 812) 945-8520, https://www.realeather.com/about. Silver Creek has been in business in Jeffersonville, In. since 2002. I'm thinking Mr. Sartor might have some information on the Bauer Company or a lead or two for you to pursue. Good luck. Quote
