JLSleather Report post Posted November 25, 2018 Okay, trying to search the site is pretty much exhausting. Prolly fine if ya got nuthin else to do all day? So WHO makes these stamps... I mean an ACTUAL stamp, not some font typed into a cnc somewhere looking like any other? I'm a bit confused as to why there wouldn't be a SINGLE PLACE where this info is displayed. Or maybe there is but it isn't searchable... ANYWAY.. off to check the "services" section. I've always found these "makers mark" things a bit of a small man complex, but some regular customers have actually ASKED for one ..
Clintock Report post Posted November 25, 2018 Don’t get one made unless it has a handle that you can hammer. That using a press each time gets aggravating and time consuming moving from bench to press. Just a little tip.
JLSleather Report post Posted November 25, 2018 (edited) I think you sposedta stamp 25 at a time.. saves 24 trips to the press BytheWay ... when you gona alter that heritage holster (.22) to cover the trigger guard, provide a hammer protection "lip", and drop the skirt so that the top of the butt is about waist high, and shorten the skirt so that the loop IS the bottom of the skirt? You knw, just a slight 'mod' Edited November 25, 2018 by JLSleather
oltoot Report post Posted November 25, 2018 This may not help because it is old (50+ years) info but when I was first starting I had makers mark lines made as lines of type for setting in a printing press and then assembled them into an appropriate bundle in a holder/handle that I could whack to my heart's content then when impressions began to loose their crispness I would just change out the individual lines of which I had had to get 100 each in order to be served. Worked for 20 years until I could justify getting the real thing
fredk Report post Posted November 25, 2018 I got a stamp cut to my design by a seller in China. It cost £15 - about $16.50. Time from placing order till it dropped thru my letter box, about 10 days. Its cut in brass so it can be a. used as a hammer stamp b. heated in a pyrogravure for buning in I got my stamp made to 3cm x 2cm roughly. It has an M6 thread hole on the back so I can use a handle I've made up or under the ram of a press. Link to seller; https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Custom-Made-Design-Your-Logo-Leather-Seal-Wood-Stamp-Branding-Iron-Carving-Mold/382286790022?hash=item5902117d86:m:mxK2t0VgU1u9BQEIZjJLxxw I've had a few stamps made in China by different makers - they seem to go after a while. I've only ever got binary designs cut and they've managed to replicate the finest of lines
immiketoo Report post Posted November 25, 2018 http://www.steelstamps.com http://www.greyghostgraphics.com https://www.facebook.com/StampsForLeatherStore/ All of these makers can help you design and make a stamp. Steel stamps are nice because they can make them incredibly small and the material will hold up to use, whereas the delrin stamps can't support the thin lines at small sizes. At least not over time. Grey ghost makes a great delrin stamp, and the cheapest option is stamps for leather. Those require a press of some kind.
JLSleather Report post Posted November 25, 2018 Well, shoot! Look like everybody just doin' line art. Maybe what I need is more of an embossing plate. I'm not ready to do a makers mark just yet, but had to give these a look. Found a couple of fascinating things at Steelstamps ... Who knew stamping ice and branding hot dogs was a thing! For that matter, wonder if a hot-dog brander would work for a heated makers stamp? - Bill
JLSleather Report post Posted November 25, 2018 Even if it's just line art, that Coast Guard thing at 3G does look pretty good. Just not what I was looking for atm. Folks feel free to add others you know of (or if it's yourself, as well) and we'll have a list the next fella kin maybe NOT spend time searchin'. If they did ya a good job, why not refer 'em ? Mattsbagger Report post Posted November 25, 2018 Sergi Neskromski. I think that’s his name. He has a running post in the stamps for sale section. He will make anything you want. I sent him a screen shot and he made me a great stamp. Brass with a handle for hammering.

But seriously I didn’t say anything about pressure. I said cut down on trips. Plus with a hammer stamp you can see EXACTLY where you want it and not covered up with a plate at the press. But I digress...

battlemunky Report post Posted November 26, 2018 2 hours ago, nrk said: these guys also do acrylic templates and stamps - https://am-leathercraft.com/pages/custom-made-stamps This is where I got mine and I got 2 and a handle for under 60 bucks shipped. He is out of Vietnam though so if you are in a hurry, he is likely not the source. I'm happy with mine so far and I just hammer it so far, I imaging a nice and constant pressure with a press would yield really nice results with this stamp too. It's all brass. I like it a good bit. Big Sioux Saddlery Report post Posted November 26, 2018 https://www.steelstampsinc.com/custom-leather-stamps. Years ago I had a couple stamps made by Harper Mfg. A search took me to the site in my link. Somewhere it said something about them merging with Steel Stamps Inc. . . I think it's a different company than the link listed elsewhere in this thread. Anyway, the quality is superb. I would not hesitate to go back. They weren't cheap, but he depth and clarity is better than any of the Delrin stamps I see everyone selling these days. I need a new saddle stamp (name change otherwise my existing would last forever), and when I can afford it, that's where I'm going. The thought of having to have a new stamp made was the ONE thing that made me think twice about taking my maiden name back when I got divorced. I have a strap end stamp made by them also, which I still use, as it's just the shop name.

JLSleather Report post Posted November 26, 2018 You'd have to ask the stamp makin' folks, but I would think it's okay. Maybe make it a black/white image. And specify a size you want. Most of em say "high resolution", but I suppose high is different from one to the next. Still, I'm guessin' any of them folk kin re-enter your image in a form they need it purdy quick. Here's mine from @amleather (Alex Moreau) It took a long time to get here on the slow boat, but came out nice...I've hammered it quite a bit and also use it in the press with great results. The attached pic was the test impression he sent me before shipping out the stamp. Also attached is the proof after he worked up the design on the lettering to give a better impression...
