Members Toru Posted February 19, 2021 Members Report Posted February 19, 2021 (edited) This is based on an order from a fishing tools dealer. He want his rubber nets get kind of bag which can be attached on belt. So I made this. The leather is Tochigi Vegetable Tanned leather and I polished with mink oil. Looks like he is quite happy with that, but he asked me not to punch my brand from next time. Which is a little disappointed. Of course, as long as I get paid, that is okay. Members hylander Posted February 19, 2021 Members Report Posted February 19, 2021 If they don’t like my logo they can buy from somebody else. Are they wanting to take credit for your work? Are going to use your pattern to make & sell to others, and claim it was their idea? Just not cool in my book. Quote
Members Retswerb Posted February 19, 2021 Members Report Posted February 19, 2021 That’s a great looking case, nice job! As for the logo, it’s always up to you whether you’re willing to skip it or not - and always up to the customer whether to buy it or not. Your logo looks nice, but I can see the customer’s objection since it’s fairly large and prominently placed, if he wasn’t expecting it to be there. Maybe you could get away with putting it on the side facing inward, perhaps behind the belt loop cutout. Quote
CFM Hardrada Posted February 19, 2021 CFM Report Posted February 19, 2021 Yeah, I was gonna say thumbnail logo would be OK. Either that or a label that can be removed. Another way to promote the maker could be a printed, small piece of paper with "Care for your Pouch" instructions with the maker's logo and info on the back, inside the pouch. The seller can choose to throw it out, but if it's got care instructions it's likely he'll leave it in. Quote
Contributing Member fredk Posted February 20, 2021 Contributing Member Report Posted February 20, 2021 1.thats a nice looking bag 2. recently a client didn't want my logo too prominent. I couldn't put it on anyways as I was using chrome tan leather to make some drawstring bags. So I stamped some 4cm x 3cm veg tan with my logo, its 3cm x 1.7cm, and sewed them into the seam at the bottom of the bag. Quote
Members Toru Posted February 20, 2021 Author Members Report Posted February 20, 2021 Thank you all for the suggestion. I do love the idea of printed small piece of paper or small piece of the leather with my brand. To add some leather maintenance hint sounds like to be more acceptable for customers. I agree we leather crafters should build up our own brand imagination no matter how small we are. We designed the pattens and made the products with our hands one by one, we are not OEM makers Quote
Members Bert03241 Posted February 20, 2021 Members Report Posted February 20, 2021 Putting your Brand on a product you make is advertising for you. People see your work and want to know who did it so they can order from you. I would not agree to not put my brand on a piece I made unless the buyer wanted to pay an extra fee so he's paying for the advertising to be removed.JMO Quote

Members Dwight Posted April 3, 2022 Members Report Posted April 3, 2022 Of course the other thing is with the logo and making duplicates . . . It is an awful hard thing to do to prove a "copyright" case on the things we make. I've actually never heard of it . . . although I'm sure there are some cases out there somewhere. Personally . . . I have copied other's work . . . but when I do . . . it is with the idea that I am doing something that will make it a better fit for my customer than the other maker. But I do not "exactly" copy his / her work. Plus . . . I've got some things out there I know I personally designed . . . and I see copies of it . . . consider it a compliment that someone copied my work . . . even if they do get paid and credit for it . . . gives my old time ego a slight lift. May God bless, Dwight Quote
CFM chuck123wapati Posted April 3, 2022 CFM Report Posted April 3, 2022 if some one wants you to make products without your name on them so they can re sell them its time for a contract. Thats business. Quote
