Members TVvoodoo Posted April 25, 2021 Members Report Posted April 25, 2021 I have a fellow who wants me to make him a guitar strap that has the feel of this image below but in a more blue and green colour scheme. Wondering if anyone more experienced than I might have suggestions on how to approach this concept... with dye/tooling/paint etc It's the fine lines/transparency with texture thing that has me rather baffled. Incidentally this is the last project I completed for him. Fella likes his fancy straps! Quote

Members Rahere Posted April 25, 2021 Members Report Posted April 25, 2021 Try your usual dyework background, then a hotwork point and gold/silver foil under a traced template. Would a pyrography iron dialled right back work? It's been 50 years since I did anything like it. I'd be interesting to see if you could photocopy it onto transfer paper, as an alternative - that would have to be sealed on with a glaze. Quote
Members TVvoodoo Posted April 25, 2021 Author Members Report Posted April 25, 2021 Oh my... @rahere does that means I get to buy more gear? LOL! I was toying with some sort of glitter effect, or paint pens in my brain, but gold foil I did not think of. Definitely stronger. Quote
Members Retswerb Posted April 26, 2021 Members Report Posted April 26, 2021 (edited) No help here, just chiming in to say that I sure want to see a picture of the final product once you figure it out! I like the gold foil idea. Edited April 26, 2021 by Retswerb Quote
Contributing Member Ferg Posted April 26, 2021 Contributing Member Report Posted April 26, 2021 It seems you can get gold ink pens/markers. It would have to be sealed of course just like the rest of the piece. It certainly wouldn't be as "Fiddly" as gold foil and cheaper. Ferg Quote
CFM chuck123wapati Posted April 26, 2021 CFM Report Posted April 26, 2021 i use iridescents over black for a similar effect on the background Dont know how your gonna get the gold Quote
Members Rahere Posted April 28, 2021 Members Report Posted April 28, 2021 You'd be surprised how cheap transfer gold foil is. It's beaten so thin there's not enough to hit the pocket there. Quote

Members battlemunky Posted May 20, 2022 Members Report Posted May 20, 2022 Those turned out quite nice! Just curious, where'd the strap template come from, I think I want to make a few of those. Quote
