KingfisherLeather Report post Posted October 13, 2021 Hello there! My name is Mae and I am most definitely a newbie! I have come across a lovely wooden tool that I thought maybe is a groover or creaser but I have no idea what it is or how to use it. It is like that on both sides and they have different depths and widths. Please Help! Much Appreciated, Mae

Squid61 Report post Posted October 13, 2021 Did you come across it in some context, perhaps with other associated items? If it has been charred that may have been to harden it against wear, wear against what is the question. Without knowing its size it's hard to tell what possible uses it might have. chuck123wapati Report post Posted October 13, 2021 a slicker or burnisher of some type? I would say made for a special purpose indeed. looks like a guy could lay a strap flat and burnish the edge and top at the same time maybe
Handstitched Report post Posted October 17, 2021 As the ends look burnt, just wondering if its for leather at all. Shaping glass while its still hot? hence the burnt tips and sides, and the many scratches ? Theres a small crack, just to the right of the 'tip'. Repeated exposure to heat? One side is wider than the other. HS

bruce johnson Report post Posted October 17, 2021 Found in at least half the old shoe sets I get. Explanation is used to smooth waxed edges.
RockyAussie Report post Posted October 17, 2021 It is for slicking around the soles of shoes between the welt and upper. Makes it easier to apply pressure and keep it happening in the right place.
