Members Sabrina Posted February 12, 2022 Members Report Posted February 12, 2022 (edited) I have trouble to use rivet #9 I use the hole tool to push de burr in the copper rivet. After it cut the edge excess but when it come to make the finish with the dome tool, tue burr goes out of the rivet. What i make wrong? First i think the rivet was too short, order longer rivet but have the same effect.. :/ Could it be because I don't use a anvil on the base? Edited February 12, 2022 by Sabrina Quote
MikeRock Posted February 12, 2022 Report Posted February 12, 2022 After pushing the burr down, compressing the leather, did you clip/cut off the rivet, leaving just enough to peen over? Quote
CFM tsunkasapa Posted February 13, 2022 CFM Report Posted February 13, 2022 Or did you perhaps clip it too short to peen over effectively? Quote

You would need a very solid and firm base to do the peening well. Once you have cut the rivet to length (1 or 2 mm longer) I normally tap around the outer edges of the rivet before finishing off with the dome tool. Quote
Members Sabrina Posted February 13, 2022 Author Members Report Posted February 13, 2022 (edited) I cut off at maybe 3-4 mm over de burrs. Will check for an anvil and try again. Thanks for your andwer, I will let you know how it goes after this ajustment Edited February 13, 2022 by Sabrina Quote
Members Hags Posted February 13, 2022 Members Report Posted February 13, 2022 I use a lot of copper rivets. I also use the three punch set from buckleguy.com ($56.93) so I have all the tools I need. I mostly cut the rivet 2-3mm and use the round over punch. I use #12 rivets, be sure your tools match your rivets. I love copper rivets because my customers love the look! Quote
Members Sabrina Posted February 15, 2022 Author Members Report Posted February 15, 2022 Thanks you soooo much! Anvil (i buy the mini one) + cut shorter the rivet length (1-2 mm max) = work great! Quote
