I'm a nubie and was having problems with my leather stamping. You know, bounce, twist and rock. After reading some articles about converting arbor presses for leather stamping I bought a Palmgren 61101 (either A10 or 1 ton press on eBay. I really thought it was going to require a lot of alterations, but it arrived today, and was I ever surprised to find it almost leather-ready. The ram can be installed with the hole on the botton, and the Tandy 3D spring handle is a perfect fit. The watch battery size magnet is very strong and holds the handle tight. This press also came with a three piece punch set. The horseshoe shaped platform needs a wood block since you don't…

Hi all, After helping me solve my previous stamping issue I thought id ask about branding, not sure if it belongs in this section though..... I want to make my own branding iron, I have 2 CNC engravers/cutters and plan on using one to make my own designs. The question is what material to use? Aluminium, Brass, Steel?? Anyone ever made one before? Nick

I saw a lot of pictures of Leather Barbwire. And for a project I would like to make some myself. Does anyone knows how you make Leather Barbwire? What's the secret? Below some examples of what I'm talking about: Gr. Henk

If we use a say oval shape to have a design say basketweave inside, how do we get nice sharp edges to the stamp design when only using a part of the stamp, i.e. angled stamp so it goes right up to the border line When I try it with a tilted stamp the end result is a sharp design at one end and fading all the way to where it's lifted

I Can't Spell! 1 2

Actually, with my trusty spellchecker I do okay though an F in spelling in the 4th grade remains the only true blemish of my academic career. What I'm really struggling with is how to stamp, carve, emboss, whatever a person's name onto a leather product. In my nearly 15 years of working leather I don't think I "named" a piece more than half a dozen times and in each case it was a wide western style belt. Over the last 8 months I've done ~10 pieces with names on them mostly billfolds, clutches, and such. No belts. Part of it is that I'm reaching a different ethic group with my products than I use to and part of it is . . . well I don't know. I am not happy with any of t…

Hey all, On the post I made about the album some, one suggested that the shell stamp would make great scales for a dragon. I was thinking about it and came up with this. I started by stamping out an area with various background stamps. Then over that I did the shell stamp and the filler. Makes very cool looking scales. Now if I ever have to carve a dragon I will have something to make it different. ClayM.

Ok, I feel like this should be a "first post" question but I would like to know how you deal with "curl-up"- We rubber cement a piece of leather to a backing material (I use plexiglass) then case and tool. After the leather dries and is removed from the backing, a few days later it starts to curl slightly. I ASSume this is happening because I am only casing one side of the leather, but if I case the back of the leather how do I cement it to the backing? I have tried leaving it on the backing until it was bone dry but soon after I remove the backing a day or two later- Curling... Now to counteract the curling I thought of casing the backside after removal but the rubber…

I am not asking any questions in this post about whether this would work, because I already tried it. Nor am I recommending this unconventional idea to anyone because it didn't work all that well. Just sharing for the sake of interest or discussion, or in case anyone else out there is wondering about the idea. To begin, I carved a set of tracks that I had drawn deeply into a piece of leather (one front and one back bear paw - no, I didn't bother to make a right and left - they're both left ). Then, after soaking the leather in neatsfoot oil, I filled the impressions with JB weld. After removing the JB weld nuggets from the leather cast I had semi functional stamps. …

I absolutely love this border stamp but I can't find it anywhere else. Can anyone identify it and point me in a direction to buy it? The holster it is from was branded "Leather Creek Holsters, Gainsville GA." Thanks!
