I bought a basket stamp about 3 months ago so I thought it was time I gave it a try. I’m not sure stamping is for me but I’m pretty pleased with my first attempt.

I Can't Spell! 1 2

Actually, with my trusty spellchecker I do okay though an F in spelling in the 4th grade remains the only true blemish of my academic career. What I'm really struggling with is how to stamp, carve, emboss, whatever a person's name onto a leather product. In my nearly 15 years of working leather I don't think I "named" a piece more than half a dozen times and in each case it was a wide western style belt. Over the last 8 months I've done ~10 pieces with names on them mostly billfolds, clutches, and such. No belts. Part of it is that I'm reaching a different ethic group with my products than I use to and part of it is . . . well I don't know. I am not happy with any of t…

What's this stamp number, that's been for the edge in marked circle? It seems I cannot find it anywhere, just other "grainy" stuff..

Does a quarts slab provide an extra benefit, or can I get away with using a smooth cutting board or other smooth flat surface? I could've sworn I came across a thread that detailed this, but have been unable to find it since.

Dragon scales 1 2

Hey all, On the post I made about the album some, one suggested that the shell stamp would make great scales for a dragon. I was thinking about it and came up with this. I started by stamping out an area with various background stamps. Then over that I did the shell stamp and the filler. Makes very cool looking scales. Now if I ever have to carve a dragon I will have something to make it different. ClayM.

I am looking for a stamp maker that can duplicate my clubs patch below. I don't have an arbor press, I would like to be able to stamp it by hand or both if possible. The widest part of the stamp is 3 1/4 " I would appreciate any information that you can give me. I am going to use it for small cases. Jim

If we use a say oval shape to have a design say basketweave inside, how do we get nice sharp edges to the stamp design when only using a part of the stamp, i.e. angled stamp so it goes right up to the border line When I try it with a tilted stamp the end result is a sharp design at one end and fading all the way to where it's lifted

After being thoroughly unimpressed with the font selections for letter/number stamping I stumbled on a post or two here that talk about using metal letterpress type to do the job. After poking around the Intergoogle a bit I can honestly say I'm completely convinced! I do have a few questions about it before I pull the pin on a set. Are there general guidelines for what font characteristics work better or worse? Is bold bad or good? Thin bad or good? What is the smallest size font that is workable with leather? Are there particular fonts that look better in leather than others? My guess is that 18 pt is probably as small as you would want to go and my plan is to st…

Ok, I have never wet molded before... well... not really... and I need advice. I am about to start my rear seat and have decided to stretch/mold the side gusset to fit, and wrap it under the bottom to staple to the pan. I then intend to round braid lace the top to the sides and be complete, but, before I finish with the sides, I want to put a carving onto the gusset. Can I tool it then stretch the leather, and the carving be left intact? I understand that I look at distorting the carving, but would it mess up the depth of the carving and the tooling? Should I tool it after I have stretched it an allow it to dry? How would you do this? If I haven't explained myself clear…

I have a pending job to make a number of items with various names. The space available is 1 1/2" and I'll need a dozen or so different names. It won't be cost effective to do individual letters and too expensive to have 12 stamps made at $40+ Any suggestions? The ideal would be to go from a pdf to a plate somehow. Thanks! Bob
