Contributing Members are the Blue folks that have donated money to the board. Blue people get bigger inboxes and more site permissions, for example, they can upload bigger files, use html in their signatures, and have full video privileges. If you're blue, the rules aren't very strict. Mainly, we use blue folks as guinea pigs when we are testing a new feature. They put up with us and give honest feedback. Donations are not tax deductible, but you do get that warm fuzzy feeling from helping. If you are buying something from one of our sponsors, please tell them that you saw their ad here. If you want to run an ad and reach 1000s of leatherworkers, we can help you on any budget. Kate, the Directory Admin, has staff from her business to make you custom banners and eye catching branding, and she can get you the best placement for your specialty so customers can find you. If you want standard forum banner ads, let me know and I'll work with you. I would be lying if I didn't mention the new server costs 5 times what we used to pay and I am nervous about paying the bills. I tell myself, if the people like what we are doing, they will support us,and we'll be okay. If they don't choose to advertise here, or donate, LW will go away, because we can't afford it. We have a lot of options for advertising, and your ads will be seen by thousands of potential customers, many of whom have asked me how to disable their ad blocking software so that they DO see the ads here. Google is catching on to the directory, and thousands are shopping in there for finished goods and leather and supplies. Our basic listings for producers of leatherwork are free, but the enhanced advertising allows more pics and keywords and priorities in the searches. If you just want to bring your site more attention, oh my, we can help with that! Google loves us. What? You said your site looks terrible and hasn't been updated since your brother-in-law's ex-girlfriend's sister moved away? We have a cure for that, too- www.studio2dawgs.com But the most important thing is that you visit the site, share your experiences and pictures, and participate in the conversations. Yes, if you can help financially,. great, but leatherworker.net isn't going to ever cost you a penny if you don't want it to. It was meant to be a free resource to all leatherworkers, and it always will be. Mike- you need to lock down your router, Flip it over and there will be a website to log in and change the settings. Computer browser history is retained on the local computer. Someone with access to your PC created the history. If you were Googling, be aware that Google will now suggest all sorts of things when you begin to type. If you didn't click, it won't be in the history, though. HTH Johanna

I spoke with Verlane's sister today and explained our concerns. She said that she didn't mind individual files being shared between members as subjects came up, but that she does not want anyone to make a compilation of Verlane's material and put it on the Internet. She also expects that no one attempts to make a profit off of it. If the estate decides to make a CD/DVD/book available, LW will let you know how to get it, meanwhile, please be respectful of the copyright and do not abuse the gracious way Verlane's family has agreed to continue to share her lessons and tutorials. Failure to abide will result in possible legal action and a permanent ban from LW. Thank you for your cooperation. Johanna

If the judges feel no pieces deserve a ribbon, the ribbons are not awarded. This keeps it "real"...if you won an IFoLG ribbon, you earned it, it wasn't given to you by default. Johanna

Yep, Charley- good post. Kick it up a notch. I've never worried about anyone leading anyone astray on LW because there are plenty of peers to keep things honest. I'd be glad to put together a list of qualified people who will agree to critique work if it will help. LW has a lot of experts in many fields, and most of them are generous with their time and expertise. It's refreshing to hear that there are some people who really want to reach their full potential, and it's fantastic that we have the people who can help them to do it. I was never crazy about mediocre either...that's why LW was born. Johanna

I was a subscriber to this magazine almost from the beginning. As the babies came, and our shop closed, I let the subscription expire. In February of this year I realized I missed it more than I thought I did. LW is a busy board, and Shop Talk is a useful informative magazine. I called and began subscribing again. Last week I noticed I hadn't gotten any of my copies since February, so I called again. There must have been some confusion over my address (we don't have mail delivery here at our street address, and must use a PO box.) I explained that I had not received any of the other issues, and the lady promised to send me the copies I had missed. They arrived yesterday in a big envelope. Now THAT is "Customer Service", and I am pleased that they helped me so promptly. If you are in business, Shop Talk is loaded with interesting, helpful, relevant information and contacts. Okay, I know the board looks naked. But we had to let everyone back in, they were chewing on the doorknobs. We saved about 3/4 of the pics, and all the posts except the last week of the year. Kate is the hero for getting our members, passwords, & structure back. She took all my back ups (that had been corrupted by a failing server!) and managed to put Humpty Dumpty together again. I signed on with a new webhost that is a business, not a friend, so the price is more, but I can demand better service. I know it looks funny in here, smelling like fresh paint, but it will feel like home again soon. The doughnuts are still not safe for humans to eat, but the coffee is fresh. People who registered after Dec 27 need to register again. Remind me if I need to change your status. If you posted any pics in the last few months, post them again. Freak said it's a second chance to make a good impression! All of the pics from Oct 07 on are gone, so please please repost. You're also doing us a favor by making sure everything is working like it should. Everyone please fix your profiles and signatures, too. I don't have time to clean up all the red x's.
