  1. Great idea! I don't think I would have thought to make them that way. Good work.
  2. Fantastic job! Did you finish the back also? I have one of those forever projects that is a shield also. My promise to myself is to finish it by October. Thank you for the inspiration.
  3. I like the case and also like to come up with my own patterns for things. Would you please post a picture of the case open? I am interested in seeing how you attached your front strap and what is under the flap. Thanks
  4. It is not too common here in the States! How is it pronounced in Sweden? I use the 'J sound (jan - a) I also agree with you on the applique braid, but don't use it too often.
  5. Very nice Tom, I like using the round braid also. Always felt it made the project look neater than the double loop.
  6. Mike, Thank you for re-posting the pictures you have, it has helped alot. I like to re-create historical pieces and have a list of different items I want to try. I just need to be able to find a use for them after they are done!!
  7. Mike, that is certainly a beautiful piece and would very much like to create something like it, but I am needing to make a sheath or baldric for a great sword. With the information that Tom gave me I found a couple of examples that will start me off. I went ahead and attached them. I will be adapting the design to work for the customer. Thank you for posting your pictures, I now have another project on my list of things to recreate!!
  8. I don't know that much about this aspect of leatherwork, but I like what I see... Show more when you have it.
  9. Welcome! You have some very nice art pieces on your website. You will get a lot of inspiration here, enjoy!!
  10. The same, Along with helping co-ordinate A&S night each month and Co-autocrating next years event. There are murmurs about having a competition between the Baronial Champions at Kingdom A&S... So far just murmurs
  11. Thank you Tashabear, that is what I need!
  12. What a clever idea! Looks good from here.
  13. I wanted to add black to the beeswax but the only thing I had on hand was black watercolor and when added to the hot wax it just beaded up on the bottom of the pan and did not mix, the reading I did suggested lamp black. Is bone black a powder?
  14. Does the case have a secondary piece of leather to make a sleeve inside, to keep the lid on? I recently re-created a case for holding wax tablets in which there was an interior sleeve. Please post more pictures when you can, I find this very interesting.
  15. Ken, I would encourage you to go ahead and give it a try....the interesting thing about re-creating period leatherwork is that it brings home the fact that we are definitely keeping the art alive. What is old is new again!!
  16. MadMaxx, here is the picture you wanted to see.
  17. Very Imaginative, definitely on the scary side, good wookmanship and I would like to see more of your work.
  18. Looks very nice, I would not had thought it was your first knife sheath.
  19. The Local ACE Hardware carries acrylic in 8x10 sheets ind various weights...your local one may also.
  20. LOL... Those silly people went and made me Baronial Arts and Science Champion!!!
  21. The batteries on my camera died while taking the last of the pictures for the documentation... but I will take a picture as soon as I have more. Meanwhile, the back is plain and flat and you can tell I need more practice using an awl!!
  22. Thank you! and I like your idea... I may have to look more seriously into "up-dating"
  23. A wax tablet is a historical writing pad!! The wood(or bone or ivory) was recessed to hold beeswax and you would write using the stylus. To keep everything together you would need the case.
  24. I like the design a lot and I agree the stitches should be a little lower that the surface of the leather, BTW, What is this and what is it used for? "Convertible dangler and belt loop with 3/16th size lanyard tube." Curious minds want to know!!
  25. Thank you! Yes, it is one of those projects that you look at and feel completely satisfied at the end result. I used a lot of internet sources from various museums and the like, but my primary source for the case came from a great book called "Purses in Pieces" by Olaf Goubitz. This book has a lot of information on belt pouches from archaeological digs in the Netherlands. There is a couple of chapters on different types of cases and the author gives a good bit of information on wax tablet cases.
