Finally got my website ta goin'
dirtclod replied to UncleGeorge's topic in Marketing and Advertising
Uncle George you did a great job on you site and I really like your holster design to. Hope you make lots of money with your site. -
I never have never seen any of the HDPE. But i do use these cutting boards. Their 14 x 20 inches and 5/8 in. thick. The ones i have i got a outlet store for 9 or $10.00. I cut on them and punch on them both. You can buy the same thing at wal mart. I'm sure how much they cost there though.

Some times that works for me but a lot of the time it won't work espically on the pages that come up black. It sure was a lot simpler before they were changed to Java i think i read. Now granted i'm not to computer smart. But then again i bet their are a lot of folks just like my self in the not to computer smart department. I'm not complaining because this a wonderful site and i am real happy that i found it. But it would be nice to be able to save a picture instead having save a whole thread for one picture.

The concrete by it's self will work better than concrete with plywood over it i think. The wood will still have some give and bounce. I think you would be money ahead getting the granite to start with. You are going to have to get several 2x4 to brace your form with before and after rebar to put inside the top for strength. If you paln on using concrete that comes in the bags. It's going to ALOT of them. For instance if you dig a post hole 6 inches wide and 2 and half foot deep it will take one bag to fill the hole up with the post in it. If you order concrete i bet there will be a 2 or 3 yard price you have to pay even if you want 1 yard or a half a yard. Ot you can get the rock, sand and cement and mix it your self that's alot of work. Have you though about going to a momument shop and seeing if they have a chipped stone or one that they have replaced with a new one. Another choice would be to get a babies tombstone. Their plenty thick enough and small enough you can move it by yourself. My suggestion is bite the bullet and get a stone to start with.

I seen this ideal for a money belt in a Ron Edwards Bushcraft book i think it was. Anyway the top drawing shows a money belt with a zipper in it. Sew or lace a thin piece of leather on to the bet that has a zipper sewed in it. The second one has two pieces of thin leather with the top being wider than the bottom. The top piece will flop over the bottom piece like the false back in a billfold. in the drawing the bottom piece is the dotted line. Solid line is top piece over the bottom piece.

Hi Richard, the ones that have molded i did the design before i molded it. The design was just on the top not on the sides. I never have tried this. But i think you do it after it is molded if you put a piece of good hard wood or steel the same size as the phone inside the case so it would hold it's shape.

I use Resolene have for years and it works great i think. When i do it i pour some in a sealable container " tupperware or something like that " and apply it with a sponge that stays in the container. Be sure ans squeeze it out before you put it on and make sure to wipe any bubbles out / off you may have on you reins.

It really looks nice. Great job. You might want to adjust the tension on you sewing machine. It looks like it didn't pull real tight.

Key Rings
dirtclod replied to AgronZoti's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Neat ideal and they look GREAT !! I bet you will sell alot of those. -
The second and third picture looks like there was something laying on top of the side and both were where the sun could hit them causing the difference in color. I have had the same thing happen before where the side was rolled up and sticking out from under the table and the sun hit it. It was a two tone hide afterwards.

Made with Eco-Flo

I never have tried any but it looks like it covered pretty good. Wish you had put a bigger picture of the Top Hat. It's neat ! Dirtclod -
I had a Tippman machine just like your talking about and i didn't like it. The compressor ran just about all of time because the machine takes alot of air. If you live in a apartment you might want to get something that doesn't use a compressor. Their loud !! The compressor i got brand new has a 20 gallon tank and like i said it ran all of the time. It would sew 12 to 15 inches and the compressor would kick on. It sewed fine pulled a great stich in everthing i tried it on. Tippman may of improved the machine to where it does need as much air as before. I don't know. I returned mine and got a regular machine. In reading diffent atricles it seems like everbody really likes the small hand operated one. Personally i never have seen or used one. Just to be clear on everthing i am not running down Tippman. They were helpfull. But it wasn't the right machine for me. dirtclod

Like ever one else i started hand sewing for my own work. The shop i worked at had a American Straight needle machine that i could use from time to time. When i left there i found a American Straight needle and used it for several years all the time wanting something with a deep throat. My old machine was wore out years before i got it and it finally needed to be replaced. After seeing how much i had, i went to the bank to borrow the rest. Took a picture of the machine i wanted with me and had all the reasons i needed the money. I was pretty sure they were going to laugh in my face when i told them i wanted to borrow $2000.00 to buy a new machine. "I had saved $3000.00" Anyway they said sign here pay for 3 years and it's yours. That was about 15 years ago and i am still using my Ferdco / Juki Pro 2000 almost every day. The only thing i have ever broke outside of a needle was a tension spring and the rubber piece on the thread winder and both were easy frepairs. The times i have broke a needle was because of hitting buckle or sewing a old saddle skirt. So i would say if you really like doing leather work get one even if you have to borrow some money. You'll be glad you did as soon as you sew the piece. I'll bet you will be just like me a guy i used to work in saying i should done this years ago ! Their are so many more good chocies right now i might of bought something else. I just don't know. Happy sewing Dirtclod

Need Holster design help
dirtclod replied to yldbill's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Hi vldbill here is a picture of a holster i made about 8 or 10 years ago. Best i can remember i did the same thing katsass did with the file folder lay the pistol in hold it up by the folder "don't let the gun slide out " then gently lay it down on it's side and trace everthing out. Then cut a slit in the pattern up to about where the scope ends. It will be stiched togeather and have a piece sewed on the top of it cover your seam. It's hard to explain but take a look at the scans and the picture it shows better what i am trying to say. Yea my drawing is pretty bad but maybe you can figure it out. After you get the piece sewed over the barrel and get you holster shaped then sew the bottom. If any of this helps you great and if you have a question ask. I'll be in and out all day today and i will look for a better picture. Plus i'll look for the prignal pattern i made. Pretty sure i saved it. Dirtclod -
Here is a pattern i use for my card holders. I have used this one for 10 plus years. It is 9 1/4 inches long and 4 1/4 inches wide and doubles as my billfold sense i don't like carrying one in my back pocket. You can see it has gotten streached out on one side from having to much stuff in it.Hopefuly it did right and the pictures will show.

Weight of leather for Tack Stuff
dirtclod replied to anester05's topic in Saddle and Tack Accessory Items
I get my skirting from http://www.siegelofca.com/ and use 10/12 oz and 13/15 oz. If you order over $75.00 they pay the shipping. I've been buying from them the last 10 or so years and their great folks to deal with. If you go to their website be sure to look for the Friday special link and sign up. Dirtclod
