  1. I will take a look at that link at home. I was thinking about maybe trying that antiquing stuff. I am running low on time so I will have to do something quick. Thanks, Tim
  2. Really nice work. I like the wet formed holster. The Sailor Jerry style on the seat and tool bag is really nice!
  3. Tasha I am cheap and this was a target Clearance rack watch. You are right, I am going to go with a darker dyed veg-tan strap with some stamping. The straps go to center bar brass buckles which you can't see and that is no good. They add the needed brass bling to the whole deal. So they have to move too. That is a Barry King Basketweave. I didn't follow the tutorial on basketweaving on an arc like I should have. I reread it after I finished and now I am sure the next one will be even better. Thanks Storm!
  4. For my halloween party get up I made this wrist watch cuff. I may change the bands out though. Not sure I like them and they don't function as well as I would have liked. Need more brass foofaraw!
  5. I should dig around and see if I still have my first one too. I know it wasn't pretty but I sure was proud of it at the time.
  6. Just looked at your website and the amazing work you do. Beautiful work. You have opened my eyes to look at this leather stuff in a different way. I learn something new here everytime I look. That is always a good thing.

  7. Today I will be more productive and joyful... and if anyone ruins that I'll kick them in the throat and rip their face off! :-D

  8. Kevin, I only made the maul for me because I wanted one like the fancy kids were using. The materials were salvaged from the scrap heap so I don't know what the cost would be. Ed the Bearman makes awesome Mauls if you want to buy one from an individual rather than a corp. here is a link to the thread discussing his latest mauls. The mauls he makes are beautiful and everyone that has one treasures it. http://leatherworker...showtopic=19620
  9. Aw the picture is broken I can't see the finished product! Glad to be of some help. Tim
  10. Hoooray!!! Thank you for changing one animals world and with the many others that get shelter pets we can change the world together. Life is so much better with compassion.
  11. Amazing stamping. the finish is beautiful too. I wish I could get my raised area edges to have that nice sort of rounded shape that you have. it is so organic like the piece just grew like that. Class work again!!! Tim
  12. Wow, just ohmygoshWOW! I don't think I will ever get there but at least I know it can be done.
  13. never mind, as you were and carry on. Seriously if you haven't read the book "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" you should. Your question gave me a flashback.
  14. Tandy in the 2010 catalog have brought back the real bone folders, now in more than one shape!
  15. Zen and the Art of Leathercraft.... What is quality and how do you, I and they define it? As someone that also uses mostly craftool and Hidecrafter tools with only a few B.K. tools I know what you are saying. First this is only my opinion and it is colored by severe OCD ways and faults. I also work with tools as a living so I know the cost of a long lasting quality tool that will give consistent results is higher than say a dollar store or Harbor freight tool. That being said, For the most part I am happy with the craft tool stamps. The people I make stuff for are happy with the product. That is all that matters. But I do use the Hidecrafter basketweaves and border tools and I have some Barry King tools, basketweaves and geometrics. There is a difference in these. The Hidecrafter shafts bend. Some people say theirs have broke mine hasn't. Barry's stamp is doing just fine. So basketweaves and borders these are the stamps I wish to stock with the non Craft tool variety. I don't think my cheapness would ever let me pay $100 for a stamp though, but who knows. I kind of think that like any other craft/ hobby there is some snobbery. "ooooh look I got a Binford 6000 Xtreme Titanium waddle slapper!" I see that there is an improvement in the quality of the stamping with some stamps to warrant the increased cost. There is a reason that pros use them and it isn't to show off. Swivel knives, you really get what you pay for. Having a smooth turning and well fitted swivel knife is oh so sweet after using the rocks for bearings tandy beginner model. It seems insignificant but it has helped my knife work a lot to get one with a saddle that feels right to me. Having a blade that stays sharp longer and is easier to maintain would be nice but I get by fine with a middle of the $road blade. Stop, Stropping and rolling is part of the experience for me so I don't feel the value in paying for the more expensive blade, again that is me.
  16. Yup Dustin you got veg tan there. I was wondering what the oz. weight was , so you are right on there. Absorbs water and darkens up, check, veg tan. Now whatcha gonna make? I love my drunk forum answers, they make me laugh. Sorry about that.
  17. Tandy is discontinuing some of their rawhide mallets. I got a weighted one at a big discount. I thought I would tell you in case your still looking for one.

  18. Without touching it I would say it looks like veg tan but that is a guess. How heavy is it? I know veg tan when I see it but that is a sorta zen koan, how do I know it? Well, hmmm the skin side doesn't seem to have a finish and water soaks immediately into it. I guess that is what tells me. But I wait to see how the old hands respond. I am sure there is a better way to tell that is clearer than my gibberish.
  19. Geez! Sometimes it feels like there is too much to learn and do and not near enough time.

  20. Sweet! That is some awesome work!
  21. Josh, Wow really nice work all the way around! Just awesome. The airbrush work is exactly what I have been wanting to do on my upcoming saddle project, sort of a Gibson guitar sunburst effect. I have played with the block dying but that hasn't given me what I am looking for. Time to fire up the compressor and practice practice with the air brush i guess. I can only hope to get near the same results as you. Really beautiful work Josh Looking forward to seeing how you did the clip too. Oh and hey can we see just the knife out of the sheath? I do a little of that kind of stuff too. Tim
  22. Amazing master craftsman quality work, wow! That you did the bottom of the seat too shows the care you take in making something truly marvelous. Bravo!
  23. I rub the antique on with a scrap of lambs wool. Making sure that is gets into the cuts and stamping. then wipe the excess off with clean paper towels. I haven't tried using the dye blocking resists yet and just started using the water based eco flo high lighters. Tim
