Scabbard From 1890
Grey Drakkon replied to Brushpopper's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I typically hate this word, but that's a cute hippocampus. ;D That whole thing is super clean, really nice job! -
So my guy wanted a simple leather bracelet for his birthday, so I braided a cord...Well apparently he wanted something that would snap shut. Snaps are not simple, I informed him. He wanted them anyway. -_- Snaps also won't work with a thin braided cord, so I made a wider red background for the cord, slit it at both ends to put the braided cord through then pinched them in place with the snap, which is a celtic knot type. I did one practice snap since I had never done them before, It seems HUGE when snapped together, but I'll see if how he likes it tomorrow.

I was going to say that I love that backpack, floppiness and all. I tend to hang my backpacks, so it flopping wouldn't be an issue anyway. That's a bit like complaining that your shirt won't stand up on its own, when it's meant to be worn. Also super nice wallet! I like the clever little holding tab particularly.

Benefits to paying taxes though is you can claim things as business expenses, which is especially useful if you work at home. So advertising, heat, electricity (while you're working) all of that and way more can and should be deducted. That, and being able to buy wholesale so you don't pay taxes on that. http://www.sba.gov/ is a very good site for finding out what legal recourse you have for your business as well as solid information on running a small business.

A Few Flasks
Grey Drakkon replied to CrazedLemming's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Nice Necronomicon! ;D And how appropriate that there is a flask with bat country on it. -
Fooey. Here goes again.

Old fashioned flyers are a good idea too, if you can make them look nice and know a few hangouts to put them up in. Depending on your specialty, if you know of any local auction houses, horse shows, hunting supply stores, farm stores, etc. usually have a place to hang up a regular paper sized flyer and can be good places to spread the word. Also, make business cards! They don't have to be fancy, just your name, way to contact you, and a list of things you do is a good idea. Some of those same places will let you put a stack of cards there, or just hand them out to everyone and their mother. Once you get a facebook/google/website page you can put that on there too.

Depends on the type of paint and the temperature you're talking about. There's a few acrylics that people use heat on to "set" them into place.

I like how your hardware matches the conchos, and the color of the leather is a super contrast with both.

Definitely look into making a facebook page and a google page, even if you never use either. You can put things like a contact number, hours you're open, and an email to contact you on both of those, as well as photos of your work. People can also leave reviews on your pages as well, and it also makes it more likely for you to show up in a search engine if someone puts in something like "Leather goods, (your city)".

I wonder if there's a way to recess the rivets on the back, like when you drill out a hole for a screw head in wood.

Ok so they're not fancy or anything, but I love how USEFUL leather is. I made the tab on the left for myself when I started shooting my recurve bow. Works GREAT, and incredibly simple. While friends and I were shooting, I kept lending it to them so I finally said "I'll just make you some, be right back!" ran inside and banged out a righty and lefty version. This was just scrap leather from a grab bag, and now I'm sad that it didn't have more of this tough pebbly textured scrap in it! When I first got it I thought it would be useless, but that goes to show ya.

That's some beautiful transitioning between one texture and the next. -
Thanks! It did take quite a while, lots of going back-and-forth and editing. Of course, even with all that I want to go back and edit it a bit more!

Since Halloween is coming up, I thought I'd share my mask making tutorial. It of course is not the absolute word in mask making, but I thought it was a good introduction. Just follow the link: http://ranasp.deviantart.com/art/Leather-Mask-Making-Tutorial-41572623 and click on the image to make it larger. I'd welcome any thoughts on it as well.

I've made leather masks which were out of very thin leather (3-4 oz) and after soaking and applying heat (in my case a hairdryer) They hold their form pretty well. For example, you can see that the "stem" on my holly mask is free standing and is holding it's shape quite well. I agree with others that you should shape it, heat it, dye it, then wax it.

Since you roll them up, what about something like this: https://www.google.com/shopping/product/2589852269362772400?q=flat+storage&es_sm=122&biw=1024&bih=677&ei=dHkkVMCDLoSuyQTWp4HIDg&ved=0CNEBEKkrMAQ It would take up less space than actual shelves and would probably be easy enough to build out of wood and dowels. You could even angle the rods slightly up so the leather wouldn't just roll off. The only other thing I can think of is using large flat pull out drawers like you see used for large pieces of artwork, like these: http://csufresnovintagecollection.blog.com/files/2011/01/Waiting-Drawers.jpg Only other thing I can think of is to get a big flat box and store them under your bed.

The only thing I can pick on is that the red of the A matches the background too closely, but that very well may be how it shows up on camera and not how it is in reality. They both look like they'd feel awesome in your hands! -
If you do, sign up at backyardchickens.com and show it off there, it'd be snatched up for sure. Silkies can be very tame from what I've heard. I do have a Buff Orphington who will settle down and roost on my arm if I pet her, it's pretty funny to see because she's a hefty girl. She also rips a scream like a dinosaur, which scared the hell out of me the first time I heard it.

I know far too many people who would be all over those. Great job!
