  1. I would never have guessed that this was your first human figure, never mind mermaid! Excellent job! And the coloring you did on it brings it out beautifully.
  2. If I had that knife, all those who saw would quake in terror. Probably because I'd be using it the wrong way. Very impressive!
  3. Ah, a pity. It would have been neat to see it with a watered down acrylic wash if nothing else. The antiquing probably looks great though!
  4. I can't say I'm upset with not placing, it was a great opportunity to jump back into leatherworking and made me look this site up again. Plus I made a bunch of newbie mistakes with it. I remember looking through all the entries and thinking on a few of them "Man, I can't believe they've gotten more likes than I have for that!" but when I came across yours, I went "Ok now that one DESERVES all those likes!"
  5. Hey, I voted for you! ;D I entered it too but got nowhere with my sea dragon.
  6. A question: Did you use rawhide because you wanted something stiff for the crocodile skin to be attached to, or is there a different reason? Mostly I want to know if I should hunt down rawhide because it's an essential part of sandal making.
  7. Very nice! Staining it could give it a tattoo-like coloring too, especially if you outline it in black.
  8. Well can you really blame him on Buddy being the favorite? Nice job, you can see the personality coming through.
  9. That is fabulous, I showed it to my sister (a huge HQ fan) and she yelled "That is doooooope!"
  10. Nice crafting there! I particularly like the dark edges on the lighter straps.
  11. That is some slick work right there. Only thing is it's not believable as orcish armor. Not a speck of blood or gore on it.
  12. The sense of avarice I had when looking at that first saddle surprised me. Especially since I have never wanted to ride side saddle. Or even have a horse. I think I'd have a stroke if i got my hands on that saddle anyway. It's simply gorgeous! The colors on the jumping saddle are lovely, especially how the colors contrast.
  13. That's quite clever! Kind of how I felt when I figured out I could draw a + or - on the backside of my screwdrivers so I wouldn't keep grabbing the wrong one.
  14. Very nice stuff there! As others have said, the stitching looks really tight. If I had to pick on something, I'd keep an eye on the curves on your pieces, in some spots you can pick out where you made one cut and then came in from a different direction, so instead of a smooth arc there's a slight point to it. Very minor though, and I'm sure you'll keep on improving. You're doing far better than I was in that short a time!
  15. First off, beautiful belt and GREAT photos! A bad photo makes it much harder to sell a piece, so that's definitely not your problem. Myself, I'm not a huge fan of Etsy. Some people have great success with it, but they're usually putting out a ton of listings, as Bob said.
  16. Actually it stays in place quite well as long as I keep my arm straight. The problem comes when I repeatedly bend my arm, since it's up high enough that the bend of the elbow is covered, which gives it a tendency to wiggle down over time. I just tug it back into place and fiddle with the sliding stop on the cords. I think if I actually tied it off or had a firmer way of holding the cord ends then it wouldn't be as much of an issue.
  17. That is gorgeous. Makes me want to give it a shot, and add in a carved stone "button" for the strings.
  18. What a neat idea! Don't forget to coat the hell out of it since it will be getting loads of dust (hopefully no teethmarks though!)
  19. Sounds like you got the nasty thing that's been going around here. I know someone who's managed to dislocate a rib from all the coughing he did when he had it, and someone else I know was hallucinating voices because she ended up having a fever for nearly a week. Crazy stuff! Glad to hear you're on the mend from it.
  20. Hmm, guess I kind of did this! I "harvested" a chipmunk that had been run over by a bicycle because someone I knew wanted to try making a paint brush out of the tail. Those suckers are practically suicidal on the campus I went to.
  21. A hair dryer gives you a lot more control over heating the leather, since you can hold it whatever distance works best. As long as you pay attention you won't scorch or shrink the leather.
