  1. Thanks. I also posted this in the tool forum. Looks like I found the place to get my maul, now I just have to decide on which one! The Bear Man really makes some nice mauls. I'll be ordering a couple of custom mauls from him. Take a look at some of what he makes here. http://tinyurl.com/BearMauls His basic mauls start at $75 and go to just over $100 for a super duper custom. I think that's a good deal for such quality work!
  2. Actually, I think that sounds like a pretty good explanation! I'm in contact with Bear now. I'm sure that I'll be ordering one.....or two, very soon!
  3. Well, I screwed that first post up! Let me see if I can make it easier to read. I want to get a new rawhide maul. Right now I'm using a 1 lb rawhide hammer but I want to try a maul. Do you like the round type or tapered? Why? What weight do you like? I'm thinking 2 lb. What brand, and where to purchase? I'm looking at this one: http://www.wrising.c...2&products_id=7 Thanks for the guidance in advance.
  4. That's because I hadn't seen his yet! But since you like them so much, could you tell me why they're better than rawhide? Thanks for the help and inside info. I sent Ed an email.
  5. Bearman, I saw pictures of your mauls. How can I find out more about them and get pricing?
  6. They look nice. I'm definitely interested in your report! I just posted a topic asking for advice on a new maul.

  9. I had to buy one for my 29-4 patch machine. If you still need a source, I can send you info on where I bought mine. He has quite a bit of parts for the old Singers. hdflame@windstream.net
  10. Hey, don't apologize for the gold on the rest of the leather, I thought you meant to do it! It looks good.
  11. The seat looks cool on the bike. I like the gold. How did you apply it to get it just in the grooves or cuts in the leather? Looks like I can see some faint gold flecks on the rest of the seat too?? One other question. I really like the picture of the girl in lingerie. What's the significance in the arrow? Looking at her eyes, is she supposed to be dead? It kinda has a Goth look to me. Nice job!
  12. That looks awesome! What tool did you use for that pattern around the edges and down the middle?
  13. Nice seat. Have you finished the one in the picture just above it?
  14. That's KOOL! You do awesome work!
  15. Very K@@L looking seat! Is the material around the sides what you use for making your template/pattern? What is it? I've been using plastic to make most of my patterns, then transfer it to something stiffer. I've been using some heavy paper/cardboard material that I get from Tandy. It's supposed to be a bag stiffener, like for ladies purses.
  16. Nice job on the belt. They're kinda cool looking, but other than looks, what's the loop with the D-ring for? I wouldn't think anyone would want to hang keys there? If they were military belts, was it some kind of military function? Bobby
  17. One questiion, just a little off topic...do we have a forum/thread with a list of recommended suppliers? I know there are companies that advertise on the site, and I've found that they are usually pretty reputable or the members would let everyone know otherwise. But I thought that maybe there was a list of favorites of the members.
  18. OK, Thanks for that info. Now, I know who to Google to find out more about them. I figured that Googling ALD would have been a shot in the dark!
  19. I really appreciate reading about actual honest experiences from forum members. So far, I've only bought leather locally. I have purchased some other supplies like Kydex from Springfield. Sometimes, long time members of forums use abbreviations that leaves us, with less experience, in the dark. Could someone share with me what these mean, or point me in the direction of a chart that has them listed? Here's the ones I need help with: H.O., ALD.....I figured out what W&C is. That one was easy!
  20. Thanks, I would've never thought about shoulder straps for something that small.
  21. The wallet looks nice. I can see what the belt loops are for, but I'm not getting what the D-Rings are for???? How about some inside pics.
  22. I, for one, am glad you posted your experience. I like to know when members on the forum have problems. Sometimes it sounds like people can be a little too demanding, but that doesn't sound like it applies in your case. You were pretty patient but don't tell me something is gonna ship and not follow through. I'd rather hear the truth even if it's going to be a while. Then I can make an informed decision as to whether or not I want to wait or cancel. I'm in the process of buying a new Cobra Class 24 from Steve at Leather Machine Co. just because of what I've read on this forum. I've purchased from Springfield also, but not any leather yet. However, after reading about your experience, I'll be trying some leather from them soon. Thanks!
  23. Looking at that stitch a little more...is that where you start and stop your stitching or is that done after all of the stitching around the edge? I looked at your website, you've got a lot of nice work on there.
  24. The belt looks nice, but I've never seen or noticed that little single stitch off the sides. Could you explain why you do this? So far, I've been finishing of by hand because my upholstery machine is just not made for the thickness of leather that I'm asking it to sew. I have a Cobra on order now and will see how it does with using the reverse. If I still need to finish by hand to get the best finish, then that's definitely what I'll do. I'm glad to see differing opinions on here. I think the conversation is a healthy way for us noobies to learn and try to see what works for us. I'm looking forward to getting my new machine.
  25. I've got a 29-4 that I just got working with parts from Bob. I also have several manuals that I can try to upload here. If you don't have the threader wire, you'll need one of those. You could make one but you can also find them on eBay pretty cheap. I gave $75 for my machine about 10 years ago but just recently got it working. I've spent $130 on parts, but I think I can see a need to keep it! Been pedaling and playing with it. #69 is max on lower thread. I read that you could go up to #138 on the top, but I didn't get consistent stitches. Haven't tried #92 yet. #69 top and bottom works pretty good. I have not been able to get a very long stitch without helping feed the material through with my hand.29-4 Parts Chart.pdf I've got several more files but they're too big to upload here. Send me your email and I'll email them to you. Good luck, Bobby
