  1. Hey Guys, I', doing some preliminary research into starting a small scale meat-rabbit farm. When considering which species or cross-breed to work with we have discussed several aspects, but one I really wanted your opinions on was which species of rabbit produces the best leather and fur. Do the men and women here that have worked with rabbit fur have any input on what they want, or what they don't want in leather and fur?
  2. I know this sounds odd coming from someone with no horse, and little leather. I am interested in what measurments are taken when fitting saddle to horse. I ask because I write and draw fantasy and I need to design a saddle for something that is not a horse. I assume there are some measurements taken, are saddles made by many specifications, or are there just numbers like shoe sizes. Any help or likes you guys can provide would be wonderful.
  3. Yes, I have been quite busy lately. The real world has me memorizing Solubility Rules and writing essays. I also received Assassin's Creed 2 from Gamefly a week ago and I've spent a lot of free time with it. I am actualy working on a design for a key-wallet (Tandy's kit). I'm afraid to mess it up because it was a gift and I'd like to do it well. Thanks for the help on the brand. I'll look into these companies I probably won't buy anything for a while, but I'd like to go ahead and find something.
  4. I know this sounds odd, but you are the group of people I thought to ask. I am looking for a maker stamp (well sorta) for soap and chockolate. I am looking for someone that makes custom brands (yes like cattle brands). I want one for handmade soaps and chocolates. It would need to be about a fourth inch deep, and about 2" by 3". Where should I look.
  5. Hey man, I received the letters. Thanks a bunch. M and U down. Still need A G and O two of which are in my name so I need them. I also have an extra N still.
  6. I love the idea. Even if you don't "need" to wear one for any serious reason I think you'd still find a nitch with bikers that would like having that information handy anywhere they happened to be riding. I know I want to make one now.
  7. I am confused. What does the slit in the head of the thinner portion of the strap do? I thought that could just be threaded through the slits to be made adjustable. Could I see a photo of the workings of the strap please? How it is attached and adjusted.

  9. Those are needed. I get paid on Friday. Will the offer keep 'till then?
  10. I don't see the point in buying the guitar strap kit from Tandy when what it costs could potently buy me a strap cutter so I could make as many as I wanted. I have created a quick paint sketch of how I think a guitar strap should/could work. Please tell me if this is how it's done. I've looked at Tandy's and a few others and I think this is how it works. I have a belt with loops to slide an extender through, and a hole/snap on one side to connect to guitar. The bottom thing is a strap that fits through the loops at the desired length. This has a loop/snap to attach to guitar. The top of that T shape keeps it from sliding through the loop. I figured I would attach a metal bar of some kind to that to keep it from tearing. Thanks for your help. DaCoda
  11. Hello all, I am looking for some basic patterns and my mother has three generations of sewing patterns gathering dust. If I find a few bag patterns in there what would I need to do to adjust them to the thicker leather? I could probably stitch them the same with some work, but I want to know what I should do to adjust for the thickness and sometimes stiff nature of leather.
  12. While i agree that searches can answer a lot of questions for a novice on most forums. As a person who adopts a new hobby every six moths or so I'm used to being a novice. However, I went through five pages searching for "making+mallet" and found nothing, just as I looked for "clutch+purse+pattern" and didn't find one. Some things are just difficult to find. This site's wealth of knowledge works against a new member looking for information because there is so much to fish through. Type in something and you find a lot that is irrelevant. I agree that all should search, but I think that a fair amount of repeated questions are to be expected.
  13. I honestly thought they'd be cheap. I mean for $23 I still saved money even if the 3/4"s weren't in the set. Just with the 3/8" set and the stamps.
  14. It's good to see a bama man taken care of. The way you left your website is nice and classy. I like the flowers, I agree that the open middle is much better than having filled it in with another design.
  15. I'm paying for the set this Friday and I'd like to find the extra letters soon because the A and O are in my name. And the A is in my brother's names so I need it before I can stamp belts. Does anyone know where I can find them?
  16. Seems simplle. I'd trace the lenses at the widest part, connect the two circles with two lines. Add a quarter inch to the height and width of that trace. Then measure that length. Cut leather as tall as you need the pouch plus some and that wide. Sew one seam. For the bottom I'd cut that oblong oval you drew out of leather twice and attach them with a whip stitch. I'd use 9oz to hold that shape.

  18. I just won this auction (if the link works) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280447750260&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT It was a steal at less that $16, but I need the letters that are missing from the 3/4" stamp set. They are AGMOU and I need to know where I can buy them individually. Hopefully for less that three dollars, because that still puts me at making a profit in savings. I also have an extra N in this set and if they are of similar integrity I will be willing to part with one free of charge if someone is missing an N from this letter style. Is there already a bartering thread or forum on this forum? There is an area for trades of tools, materials, and work in a terrain sculpting forming I frequent so I'm used to the concept of parting with what I don't need, and asking for help from the community before asking elsewhere.
  19. So, I am meeting with a friend in fashion design next week to discuss leather. Yesterday I was talking to another friend about leather's use for topping benches and desks. I have several sketches in the works for different bags and wallets. All of this made me curious as to how other leather workers (not that I really consider myself one yet) come up with product designs. Do you use borrowed patterns and templates, do you sketch out and design your own stuff, do you have friends in design, or do you just stick to simple stuff? What are your thoughts and input on design and leather crafting.
  20. You may just need to try some things. Maybe making a paper version of whatever you have planned to see if it will work. I've had a similar pig of a time working on the innards of wallets and purses I'm designing.
  21. I was going to make one sometime in the next few months. I intended to make a "U" shape out of 1x4s and hinge the right leg to close and then I would just tie twine around it. They seem like something that can be great, or just there, but so long as it does the job I'll be happy.
  22. Beautifultooling. The boarder is nice and the colors are great. I like the bare bones shape. I like the trigger as it is. I guess I'm a fan of speed over safety.
  23. I would love a tutorial on this type of holster. I also agree that you need thinner leather. 5-6oz maybe. Have you tryed lining them with something. Suede maybe. This would make them very tight as they'd be tight to begin with because of the molding. The layer of suede would be like heaven when it came to getting those things stuck nice and tight. At least that's my theory.
