Beside the obvious (color), is there a difference in these guns for use in forming or pattern making for holsters? Also..... does anyone have a good sourse for these guns? Thanks!

What is the best type of board to use to punch holes, so that you don't dull your punches fast and also so you don't leave nasty rough marks on the leather, as shown? I use a kitchen cutting board but the surface is rough and well, you can see the result. I also plan to punch a LOT of holes and don't wanna ruin my punches and/or dull them too fast! What do you recommend?

I didn't know that trick... guess I missed that part in my studies. After reading this post, I did just that.... wet the leather good and used the above skiver... WOW... night and day in the "ease" dept.!!! I am now happy with my skiver! Thanks!

Every method you mention here (not your, but others ideas I think) are a big pain in the butt... messy (glue) etc etc. The tiny butane soldering iron works SO easy, clean, neat etc. Yes, still backstich two-three holes, snip and solder. PERFECT way to do it.... it can't come undone aft er this, unless somebody really tried hard to get it apart.

You can melt and with the tool, just kinda press the thread down... it leaves no sharp type piece of thread.... you can rub it with your finger if there is anything sticking up (when still warm/hot). It takes about 20-30 seconds to be hot enough to melt good. I use it every time and it works so perfect. I was worried at first, but once i found this trick... YES... very happy!!

Busse Vs. Ms

Love that Game Warden Sheath!!! Very nice! -
I got mine not too long ago as well.... I love it. Works great!! I had never used a leather sewing machine before but the thing was so easy to get going..... I had to call and ask Steve a few questions, but as you said, he answers his phone and I was sewing in no time! Great machine!

I'm curious if this was BLACK 277? My white works flawless, my black is not bonded properly I think, as it kinda looks gooked up and stuff scraps off it when its sewn. It did exactly what you are describing. So tell us... what color was this?

I too had this problem when I first got my machine. I made another post here somewhere about it... but here is what I did.... I went to SEARS and bought a very small Butane operated Sodering iron. The thing is about 4-5" long only. It has no flame and works awesome!! No burn marks... no muss no fuss. I pull my thread ends tight, making sure they are locked in the middle.... then snip close to the leather and solder! It melts down very easy and perfectly. It's the best way to do this in my estimation.... I tried glue, a lighter and match... nothing..... I do tis on EVERY snipped stitch and its PERFECT.... no way can it unravel. Try it.

That one looks pretty awesome and I have talked to a guy who has one and has nothing but good to say about it. I'm ordering one SOON!

Cover For Ipad

Looks cool! Lets see a pic of it open, with the ipad in it. Nice idea! -
I am curious what you all use for storing your contact cement in? Do you use the plastic jar type containers like Tandy sells or maybe the bigger container that has a rubber stopper type thing where you just set it in the container opening and it seals it? I've been just using the screw-lid brush that comes in the container of cement and it's a pain. Also, if you are doing a lot of wider items... for instance, I am working on some Sword sheaths that are almost three inches wide... do you maybe pour some contact cement into another container like a plactic bowl or something and then use a wider brush of some sort or do you struggle along with the little brush in the container lid? That seems sloooooow. I'm all ears. I love this site and all the helpful folks here! Thanks in advance!

That sounds like the problem!! Thanks for the reply! Yes, it almost looks like it's stripping of wax as it feeds through the needle! I'll get in touch with my pusher! :-)

Sheath Makers.. A Question
ShortBBL replied to ShortBBL's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Thanks! That was my guess on how to do it... I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to make a big boo-boo. -
I agree with you Wizcrafts! If Steve did not reply to questions and wouldn't help on the phone, I would still be scratching my head! Customer service AFTER the sale is what makes a company great. Lame service.. lame company. Steve gets it done!

I'm just curious if anyone has ever gotten a bad spool of thread before, is that even possible? My white thread 277 top/207 bottom, works just super... my black thread, same sizes, gives me trouble every time I try it and I am using the same leather thickness etc.... Switch to white, works perfect, switch to black.... it twists up about the needle and meeses up the whole project. It also looks almost waxed once sewn! It is not clean and nice (after stitching) as the white is. It has the appearance (only after stitching) that it's waxy. Anyone else ever get this issue? Thanks

Thanks guys!! I really appreciate the nice words. Very encouraging. I've learned a LOT from this site! Very nice place and people! Thanks again! -
I can't seem to stop the madness! Here is another sheath.... this is about sheath number 5 (6 or 7 if I count some messed up ones after my first!). I am getting it down pretty good now. How do you like this one? It's for my "keeper" knife... so I put my logo stamp on the front!
