  1. This is closer to what my dad and uncles carried in..
  2. I've seen similar but those I've seen my father and uncles wear had a wide strap that ran across the upper back of the shoulder and it had another loop which had a buckle on the right side arm/shoulder also. Right handed cross draw. This displaced the weight in a manner which they had no problem with carrying Full Size Ruger 44 mags, Alaskans and the odd 500. Matter of fact, they were the same rigs after looking at it, but it was much wider where the strap crosses the shoulders..
  3. sweet! have to post a pic in Costume if there is a place for it or in here if they allow it?
  4. Very TRUE! more Holsters more money, more safes!!!! Hey, I'll have to pass that by my wife "Honey, this will save money because I will not be shooting that extra 2 boxes of .40 every week"
  5. I could take measurements and draw up a diagram (was a mechanical designer for a bit) and scan them for you. Dunno if you can weld or know someone who could do it for you? That would work as a stop gap until you come across a good solid original base if you really want that. Besides with the measurements you would have an idea of just how to go about building something that would keep it at the standard height and dimensions. I'll also keep an eye out in Florida, there are loads of Machines and parts because of the Sail Boat, Cattle, Canvas and Custom Shoe and Repair Shops in almost every city. I am sure one will show up in not to long a time and I can let you know on the board if you like.
  6. Might be of some help Just found this link looking up some info... It should be of some help for making a table top which you can move around with the Head as you like.. You can download the user manual for the 29's here if you like. http://dontai.com/wp/2010/03/30/singer-29k-patcher-sewing-machine/comment-page-1/
  7. Thank you Wizcrafts, good to know that it will do what is asked of it over all. I'll check and see if anyone can make use of the Lasts, if so they will be passed on, if not, into a Box and the Attic for when someone can do so. again, I feel better now know it will do the work. out of just wondering, it seems this machine was made in 1937 from what the serial shows, though there is not a Letter denoting the where it was built in the model number...?... any who..
  8. These are some pic's of a Machine I just swapped a Sub Compact CZ RAMI .40 cal for so I can use it for making Holsters. I am kind of wondering after reading some of the posts about the ability of this machine handling 8 to 10 oz thickness of leather. Will this do it or did I end up pulling a boner with the deal (gun value with action/trigger job value $500.00)? Also what is the heaviest thread I should run in it? Also, I was given somethings for Shoe/Boot repair and making, not sure I will ever use and wondering what value they might hold if any?
  9. I just picked this up yesterday ( 29k-58 ) with all the shoe/boot anvils and attachments for it. I was surprised to find this locally after scourging ebay and the net, on an off chance I did a local search on Craigslist and bingo. There were a couple of bases for the Patcher Singers without the heads also. If I was you I would try Craigslist and see if there isn't something close to you.
  10. Very nice, sleek and clean the colors complete the class look of the combo with the weapons. You probably will get more traffic from the locals where the customer shoots for sure.
  11. If it was me, I would consider a set of thin spacers with tension screws through them on the side the Hawk exits the sheath. This would allow enough tension that it would not fall out but could be pulled with slight force in the outward direction.
  12. I just traded a CZ RAMI .40 cal that I did an action and trigger job on for this 29k-58. Everything is there for the Machine including some jigs(?) for making shoes and boots. I'll probably get ride of that stuff later, but what I am stuck with is not knowing what Type and Size of thread would be best used for making Holsters? If anyone could help that would be fantastic, thanks for taking the time to read this no matter what...
  13. Very sweet, I remember seeing such knives and scabbards up in Maine in the mountains on the Canadian Border where I lived. The locals had a mixed of favorite things but it seems that the traditional things were handed down over many generations. 45-90, 45-70 Winchesters, Camps, Fishing equipment and Knives., of which your's and the scabbard reflect many of the types up there.
  14. I do it so there is enough retention from the fit that I can flip the holster upside down and the gun will not fall out, but I do not have to tug the gun out when worn with a belt adding to the retention. oh, and I wet my leather with cold water as it seems to dry tighter though that is probably just my perception of it.
  15. Beautiful! I'd be proud as hell to have the wrapped around my FP-10 -2 and anyone at a tactical shoot could piss up a rope if they found it odd with all the drag bags they all have...
  16. Damn good 1st for sure! Yes his tutorial is great as are all of them that people have taken the time to put together and share with everyone. Biggest reason I like this site is everyone is more than willing to help out any way they can. Good peoples one and all. Something I've been doing is a direct rip from Galco : I take two strips of leather starting from right behind the back of the front site to the front of the ejection port. they are around 3/16 of an inch wide. They are placed on either side along the slide, 1st I glue them in place and then I sew them. This leaves a site channel, makes for a decorative stitch line and also every style of holster I have attempted to make so far. Dunno if it will work with a revolver as I have yet to try it with one. Same from me Mattish and everyone else who have taken time to help myself and all others either directly or by posting tutorials. THANK YOU
  17. Actually something that I have done in the past might work out for you. I've gone into a couple of the local Gun Stores with a cloth tape measure and asked if it was ok to get the dimensions of the pistol I was needing to pattern. With that info in hand you should be able to use the Full size for molding the controls and trigger guard, as far as the dust cover you can slip it back out fo the holster so that the front of the cover is matched up to the compact, and then pull the gun back further to line up the end of the barrel. Not the best way, but who has the $$$$ to take up safe space on a slug... hehehe
  18. agree with woolfe on that for sure, just like leather, heat is your friend on Kydex edges.
  19. There are a number of Holsters out there for Full size weapons in a similar design. Though most that I have seen have a side by side/double snap loop set up. There are a few that even have Kydex loops on them. Looks very nice and functional for sure. I like the idea of this holster better than a pocket one or a clip on the slide. Something that would be a cool pocket idea I think would be a read pocket holster where you carry your mouse there so when you reach for your wallet when mugged, well, give em what you got! (though I would want access to the trigger while holstered in this type of rig)
  20. Tandy also has a heavier thread a step up from the 25 lb Waxed Linen, it is also waxed but not near as much as the 25lb stuff, it comes in Black, Brown and White. The spool is about 3 inches tall and 2 inches Dia. The cord is about 3/32 nds in Dia also. I wax as needed...
  21. I'm using Kydex also personally, I was just thinking of something that might be on hand and would work. Actually working on a speed rig made from combining Kydex and leather right now.
  22. To me it would seem to be more of a pain in the butt to have a shaped holster digging in until it reshapes to my body, than one that has a curve to it but will shape to me as I wear it. Not like it is Injection molding or Kydex which drive me up a wall because they never fit "just right"... But, what I have been using for belt slots is two Cypress shims which are inserted and pushed together until the desired thickness of a belt is reached. You can get them at Lowes, HDepot where the Doors are located. Shim Packs...
