  1. I've a side of black veg tanned from tandy which looks like this. Depending on how the light hits it, it can look like a very Dark Chocolate.
  2. I am betting that a punch out tab from the back of a computer case where peripheral ports are added could be used in a pinch, just knock off the edges and drill out the holes where needed.
  3. Heh, we have these huge black wheeled garbage cans for city trash. LOL
  4. This looks impressive and do-able for sure...
  5. Those are absolutely sweet, I am sure Cliff would want some made up.
  6. We had a guy here in Florida that put a loaded Jennings 9mm on the bench at one of the ranges. I was hot, hammer dropped on its own and it slam fired until the clip was empty while spinning around. Hit three different people. I'm with BGDr on this one for sure. Those named and the Lorcin, which would send the firing pin back into your face at times.
  7. It will not do anything to the finish of the gun and you can add coats as you like to keep the leather from dry rotting. Local Boot maker point it out to me a little while back. Justin Boot Cream link
  8. Cool, does he(your son in-law) have a web site? I have a friend I shoot with every week who is kind of a S&W fan. Cliff Walsh, he beat Jerry Miculek for the 2009 Nationals, he is always interested in tweaking out or dressing up one of his collection customs.
  9. sweet! nice Knife too, and the Smith, well it's a Smith and the one shown looks to be in excellent condition. They belong together
  10. Great Free Photo Editor you can use to organize, scale and over all edit your Digital Photos with, Picasa 3.x is free and works well.
  11. heh, if ya don't have strong finger to start you sure will by the time you can hand stitch em, huh? lol
  12. Looking great and I too wonder if you shouldn't consider making Sheaths on a regular basis also. I have seen some fantastic custom knives made and then the maker throws sheath together as best they can, wrapped in a sheath such as the one here would only make the Knife more appealing and valuable in my opinion for what it is worth.
  13. oh and I can only hope that my first Jackass rig comes out near as well!!
  14. Shorts, all my respect to you for sure. I know what it has been like hand stitching with two hands and I'm just starting out, I could not imagine doing so one handed. (seriously) I can not afford a machine at this point and do not want to run out and purchase something that is going to either burn up or not do what is needed of it. So hand stitching it is for me. Someone in another post mentioned making a better single diamond punch. I have to find that post as I found something they could use to make one that would last just about forever I think. It is a Scribe that is hardened and looks like it could be reworked at the tip and re-hardened again. Look like one of the old time scratch awls with the door knob handle but it is all one solid piece of machine steel. painted blue, they have them at Lowe's if anyone is interested. Also with hand stitching I found a flexible acrylic guide with holes punched in it at different stitched per inch at a 45* and 90* angle, vertical and horizontal with division line between holes. Found I do not mess up as much with the Tandy stitch pattern roller. anyway, luck to you SouthernCross...
  15. I like the holster over all for sure. It makes me wonder though if one could do the tooling and then flip the leather, lightly wet the leather and then flip it again and wet form for the basic shape one half at a time? Would that possibly help keep the tooling and allow basic boning (forming) so you could get a closer stitch line?
  16. Also the back where you have the leather to protect the weapon from the body sweat needs to be trimmed so that it does not end up betweem the thumb and pistol grip of it locks the weapon into the holster. Remember when one grabs their Rosco, they need it now and they are probably going to grip the hell out of it.
  17. Justins Boot Cream will do this for you Bob. It will give you that flat finish like you see on MX and Biker Boots of old...
  18. Yes you can do a complete pattren set out of Kydex and it would last forever. You can also get it to lay flat without issue once you re-heat it, as long as you lay it out on something flat and then place some totally flat larger than the Kydex pattern and put some weight on top of it and let it cool. I would probably only use .060. You can also use Kydex for a brace to keep the mouth of a holster open and then cover it with leather. I'd again use .060 or .030 ig you can find it. KnifeKits.com is a good starting place for various needs in Holster making. One thing I was thinking about including what you were asking about, was with the stitch line. A Dremal could be used with a cut off blade to actually cut out the cut line. Then the stitch pattern could be drilled out along it. This way you mark it all out at one time. With anything you do, if you shorten the process as much as possibly in the correct manner, you have just improved your ROI and Profit Margin.
  19. Very few people understand that Jello is reconstituted bone... LOL
  20. Hardened Framing Air Gun Nails. might work and they already have the diamond cut you could work the tip and shank as you like for the finished size?
  21. I'm liking this alot! Extreamly functional and as a cross draw being an option it would work very well for a suit jacket, over shirt and ease of access while sitting...
  22. Very nice, I hope to pick up enough from those here so I can be able of good craft as you are. The Whip is really cool to me out of them all, but all are very nice. What caliber is that casing in the basket of shells? The largest one, is it around 20 mm, or a 8 guage shot gun shell? I wouldn't want to be the one hold the gun when it went bang! well, maybe once.. hehehe
