Sig Mosquito Holster?
Reaper replied to AdamTracksler's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
If your considering carrying a Mosquito I'd reconsider it as many times as it fook until I decided against it... We've had a number of them which had the slide crack at the front of the frame throwing the front of the slide out onto the range, Dust cover and all. To holster and practice with, ok, but do not ever depend on it by putting your life on it... Check the Fobus USP 9mm Compact Holster... it works fine... -
Retaining Screw On Holsters
Reaper replied to KAYAK45's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I've had the request to add a tensioner in the past... I let them put a holster formed to the weapon and they realize that there isn't a need for them.... -
I wonder if they have the internals for the older BOSS and if they fit? I'm actually going to keep an eye out for a Aerostitcher for a future purchase. I figure that by this time next year I will be able to get one. Hell if I decide to sell my Roll aways and the tools in all there of them I could get one now and the embosser. but... I m sure there are more than me here who find it hard to part with tools of any kind...

Pancake - First Attempt - Need Feedback
Reaper replied to particle's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Very nice looking. For myself it is a bit over sized for the weapon. I'd pull the back slot in towards the trigger guard about 1/4 inch and I would probably raise the front slot up about 1 inch. This would give it a better rake which would keep the bottom of the weapon high on the belt line and make it so the grip would be pulled into the side helping keep it hidden under a cover shirt. With the weapon tilted a bit more you will find it allows the back slot to pull it into the body... -
What Thread Size For Holsters
Reaper replied to NC Holster Maker's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
http://leatherworker.net/forum/uploads/1282301134/med_gallery_15329_504_6047.jpg mmm, actually 1/8 to 3/16 is about what I like. Yes it is large, but then again I tried it out using some twine used for setting up forms in construction.and found that I do like it, as do a number of the guys I have sold holsters to. -
What Thread Size For Holsters
Reaper replied to NC Holster Maker's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I m wondering why two different sizes for top and bottom? I hand stitch everything at this point but have purchased a used Boss with almost all of the attachments so I am going to start using it and have to decide upon what size thread. 277 is the norm from what I gather but have no idea just what the Diameter really is for a #277 thread. I like a thread that is about 3/16 th inch in dia. What would be the thread size for that? -
I'm using horse butt to line the inside of IWB straps. Makes them more durable, stiffer and should work well with Sings and Belts for guns I would think.

Decided upon the Boss for a couple of reasons. I am getting an excellent deal on a used one with the add ons with it. I am also going ti be working on building up slowly. It is something I will keep and always find things to use it for. Down the road I will get a 441 or the Class 4. I will probably see what I can setup for the patcher as far as a guide/jig for sewing belts, I know I can do bags and such with it. Thank you all for your responses and input it did and does help to no end.

Holster Making Guide
Reaper replied to Wayward Shrimp's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Something you might consider is a thing I noticed on a pair of Wrangler Jeans... Lots of guys carry a pocket knife with a clip on it in the jeans front pocket. Wrangle took notice and also realized the clips ended up tearing th stitching out or the corner of the pocket when they pulled the knife and put it back after a period of time. They sew in a piece of leather in the corner protecting the jeans. You might try sewing in two pieces of leather with one half of a line 24 snap on it, and then make your IWB holster with the straps having the other half of the line 24 snap on them. You could laminate a piece of .030 kydex or something stiff you can bend to the shape of a long U and use that for the keeper pat of the holster holding it in position inside the pants. -
Thanks for all your responces and the information... I have a Singer 29K58 Patcher that a guy bought from an Estate Auction a few years back. It was made in England back in 1938 but is in good working order as far as the head goes. The stand is solid but the bearing for the treadle is gone. I was thinking of throwing a motor on that for Belts and bags later down the road. I suppose I'll go with the Boss and save for a 441? down the road. The Singer Patcher should be able to handle Belts, veg tanned with horse liner? I've 119 ( I think ) spools for in in Black and White. I'm ordering tomorrow, is there anything wrong with the Cast Aluminum Boss? I have a two car garage in the middle of being setup to make a shop and work area. That was the second thing I talked my wife into.. All leather tools and materials go out to the garage and stay there.. LOL I just need to figure out where I am going to move three full Roll Aways. blehhhh

I have talked my wife into me getting a new Machine for making Holster, Belt, Rifle Sling, Mag Pouch and Shooting Bags.. I now have to decide upon which to get in my price range which are the Boss and the GA5-1R... I've seen only videos of these two machines being used. I also am not sure which would be best in the long run and also last longer? Any info on which would be best for longevity, quality stitching and exactly what you can do with it would be fantastic... hey, thank you for taking the time to read this...

Kooky Question On Leather Pistol Grips
Reaper replied to Fredo's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Not to be a smart ass... It wouldn't end up smelling like a foot? I mean it as a serious question. I like the idea without a doubt. I think that if you could tool and then harden a set of grips there would be a market for them. -
I think it is a very valuable options to offer, and worth checking into evolving. One thing I would probably consider would be some type of material for the screw cover pad which would wick the perspiration away from the leg. Also a way to seal the back side in between the leaver covering the t-nuts so sweat could not be drawn into the firearm in the holster. Probably could use something like Liquid Black Tape you can pick up from an Auto Parts store. The rubber would add a bit of cushion while also being a barrier for salty sweat. With the wool sweat will build up and probably soak into the starp and possibly the holster in time. Also, if you've ever worn a cast you know what wet covered skin can end up like, not sure but I'd look on the web or a craft store that has bolts of fabrics and see if they have or can get you a small piece to try out.

I would think you would have to put something on it so the dye would not bleed out on clothing at least? -

First holster for first gun
Reaper replied to Crystal's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Very nice indeed, Crystal! Your shooting will improve over time, thought you might want to get a 22 lr. conversion or pick up a dedicated 1911 22. Cheaper to shoot but the same mechanics and all the weapon controls are the same that way. Good shooting and Fantastic Leather Work! -

Shoulder Holster For Compact 1911
Reaper replied to Tkleather1's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Spokane, Washington. I am betting that a Jacket is worn more often that not almost year round. I know that up in Maine you can wear one almost year round without discomfort and at least 7 months out of the year a Denim jacket is pretty much common daily. -
A Holster "in The Oven" Question!
Reaper replied to ShortBBL's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Looking nice, did you treat the hard parts so they won't crack? Or did you catch it before it baked to that point? Black is definitely a savior at times, thats for sure.... -
