  1. Hi Johanna, I not able to paste in links in topics, post or personal PMs. It's not been possible since the big site update. I'll just make sure you know about it. Thanks

Interesting, when I couldn't past links the screen did nothing. I saw no text at all.  But I'm not working on a tablet, and since the upgrade I can post links.  http://leatherworker.net/forum/

Maybe try using Google Chrome for your tablet?  Maybe Android devices deliberately don't work well with IE?

Hi Trox, are you using Internet Explorer by any chance?  I've had that problem with IE and I have to switch to Google Chrome if I want to post a link.

  3. I've got a custom order for a 3-ring binder that I need help with.  I usually secure the binding mechanism to the cover using silver screw back conchos. The client does not want anything "flashy" and wants something flat, no decoration at all, and black like the cover leather.  Any thoughts?

I think that would be a very clean way to do it.

I think tin would work.  Personally I would probably use a thin piece of plastic (or styrene) because it would be less flexible and would want to maintain it's flat shape. It won't take much to reinforce that thick of leather.  But tin works just fine on saddles...

Can you secure the rings to the inner liner, or the inner liner and an internal stiffener in the spine, and then cover that all with the outer layer of leather?  That way the mounting hardware would be invisible to the user.

  6. I like the page's new looks but what happened to the advertisements at the top? They were obtrusive no doubt, but having those links to commercial resources were helpful to me. Are they eliminated or just somewhere else?
    Thanks,
    Michelle

I can see the ads on the main page from my home computer (Apple) but not from my work computer (PC, Internet Explorer).  Odd.

  7. Has anyone been the the Leathercrafters and Saddlers Journal show in Sheridan?  I will be attending this year and I am taking some of the classes.  I have to come up with a travel version of tools and just wanted some opinions on what I really need to take.  I'm flying from Florida so it's going to be a long trip.

You are going to have a great time!  What kind of classes?  The class listing say what you will need though in tooling classes instructors often have specialty tools they will lend out.

  14. I haven't been well for a few months and LW>net is one of the things that's kept me going. After a few months of this, a member came back and vblocked me from sending messages I wasn't sending :) All over a disagreement on FB. It has helped me though when I realize I can have a mild disagreement with someone and be over it in a day where as some people can't do that in months, which is kinda sad.

  16. Been using Weldwood with great results! Need something that doesn't stink but similar results. Go with Barge? Minimal ventilation available.

Weldwood has a non-flammable version with low fumes. Comes in a green can. I hear it works well too.

  20. today ive started making a leather card holder !(i may have stolen the idea from some one here) it seemed to be a good starter to hone some skills , and i have learned a little so far from it and im still not finished , waiting for the stain to dry !

  21. When customers complain about the price of your tooled leather, remind them that nobody's paying hundreds of thousands of dollars for an old piece of canvas in a gallery. They're paying for the artwork that adorns it. We need to teach our customers to look past the utility of the item which happens to be used as the canvas and instead look at the artwork that adorns it.
