    hello

get all tools you can and read all the books you can get in the bathroom with ya. Welcome to our madness !!
  3. We're glad to have ya here Chuck, Just jump in when ever you feel like it. Sometimes the simple things are the best. I"m all about how to make it more basic and work better. Yes i know your name is Randy but i'm a freak and you look like a Chuck to me
  4. I don't know what it is but i'de rather do letters then do floral carving. You, as well as others here, make it look like second nature . I know if i don't practice i'll never be any good at it. It just seems i can always find something else to practice. Great write up Clay. I'm sure i'll be using it for guidance when i get ready to practice my florals. Thanks for taking the time to do all the write ups you do. It means alot and helps alot.
  5. WOW.. very clean and tight. Really nice rich color. Well done..!!
  6. The more i look at it, the more i realize how clean your lines are and how much hidden detail (does that make sense) there is. Alot nice little touches. Very nice. Is this one your design or the customers ?
  7. Clay my man, i gotta tell ya... I love the fact that you're so humble and sometimes i don't think you really know how good you are and how luck we are to have you here. That's a little out there some may say, with it having feathers on it's head and all. Other buffalo may call him a freak. I like , i like it alot. Not just the idea but your work as well. I look forward to seeing the finish master piece and read the how to write up. buffalo always make me think of cowboys and Indians. Mostly Indians to tell ya the truth. The fact that you added feathers to the head like that, really makes me think it is some type of Indian war buffalo. Again i really dig it man. Now i'm gonna go see if i can find some feathers to put on my head.
  8. Welcome Back !! It's great seeing new faces,,,,,again. Glad you decided to come back and do it again. Look forward to seeing you work.
  9. Thanks all. I think the neatsfoot oil is what i'll try. Kani if you look at the pictures you can see it as i did. I can't figure out how to get the pictures to post in the order i want them to. So i'll try to do it this way and maybe it will help you. Remember there is no wrong way , just different ways. but here's mine. In this picture i've done all my carving with the swivel knife. Most lines are cut, but you have to pay attention cause some are not i just use a modeling spoon on those. I started beveling then took the pic. The start pic 1 click here Then i "inverted bevel " , i beveled on the inside of the line instead of the outside. Again paying attention to where and what side of the line you're beveling. If it was just a single line , i beveled it on the outside. Like the 2 short lines at the top left of the hat. Pics click here and click here Then once i did all my beveling i used a background tool to fill in with. I used a pebble backgrounder tool from HideCrafter, PA004 & PA003. Then i added a few lines with a modeling spoon and lightly used it like a pear shader in a few spots.
  10. That's freakin awesome man. You gotta love them there raffles. I won a notebook by Chan Geer in a raffle. Yeah me !! Best dollar i ever spent.
  11. OMG, they do don't they. Well if he pisses me off in the next few weeks ,,,, it's yours.
  12. Thanks !! Mucho appreciation .. Like i said it took me a few tries to get the proper look i was after. If i had hair i would of pulled it out. The link is just a sound bite of the song from the GOOD, the BAD and the UGLY. I really wan to just leave it this color. i've never done that before. Some one give me some ideas here. Can i just use some type of oil ? I don't mind a little color. Then again i just might only use antique. I just don't know !!!!!!!!!1
  13. That is very clean looking. You did a great job. Will you be leaving it a natural color ??
  14. Ok to really get the feel for this one and to make sure we are all on the same page here. You need to click the link i'm about to post and listen to it while you are viewing this thread. JUST DO IT DANG IT !!!!! click HERE !! Did you do it ??? Then do it, geeze people. Ok , i started this one today. I've been drawing and drawing and i've tooled it a few times on scrap. It took me a few times to achieve the look i was after. But, as luck would have it i think i got it. I Can't figure carve so i did it like this and i did it like that, then i did it with a wiffle ball bat, Oh wait, sorry. I did it this way.. You ready for the mucho pictur'os ?? Are you listing to the link above ?? Now hit replay, just do it dang it....some people. first, it's just carved, i started beveling and then thought , I'll take a picture. Then a few of it beveled. Can ya see where i'm going with this? Now you get why the link , rite ??? rite ?? Come on lets' have a lil fun peeps. Then a few of it all tooled. And that's where i'm at as of now . I don't know, i'm very tempted to try and add bullet loops to use as a pen holder. freak

  21. Well Alex i'm a big fan ( i don't mean cause i weigh 255 either ) . Your work is always very tight , clean and professional looking. Just now looking at KK's card holde, i immediately thought of your work. Sidenote- i did a few things with the ranger tan when they first came out. After they sit around the house for a month or so the color really gets rich and nice. Again nice work man and thanks for sharing !!!
  22. perrrrfect. First off welcome and i already love your work just from seeing the two pics. I want to make a mask alot like the one in you avatar for a friend. So get ready for some good ole Q & A. I'll be the Q part. And by all means post more and throw up a link if you got it.
  23. If i didn't read the title i would of thought that was some type of riding gear. You nailed the look you wanted and it turned out perfect.
  24. Great work on the ladder 29 seat. Even though it is Dave's favorite color you can still see the tooling. I love the way the fade looks on the other one. Do you use a airbrush ? Did you just clean it and add black ?
