Well I have been given a bag of what I know are leather tools. They have craftool on them this one is some snaps and rivets?? I think here a pic And on the handle it says Craftool Co...and the number 48 And here is the other one. On the packaging it say craft tool snap all and on the plate it has different numbers on it 18BC, 14SG, 16SG, 20BC, 10SW, and 16SB. What does this thing do and what do the numbers mean? could you all help me out? Thanks, Chris P.S. how do i resize the pics to get them smaller??

What got any of us started with leather?
Chris B replied to Cora's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Well I can always remeber my great grandfather doing it. On sundays everybody would always go over to his house and he would be in the basement doing something with leather and I would watch. Although I never got to try before he passed away. I was 6. And I have been interested ever since. So now I figured I will try it and see how it goes. Hopefully i get as good as him. Chris -

Wow again thank everybody, you all are knowledgeable about lots of stuff.. Anywho I have talked with a couple of guys at the plant where my day job is, and they have recommended the Fujifilm S700. And from what I have seen over at Fuji Film S700 Review And it seems like a good one, and yes I have checked out other models. But what do you all think of this one? Circuit City has them on sale right now for 198 bucks. It doesnt seem all that bad for the money. Thanks, Chris -
OK i think i can help you here. I have purchased a traveling toolbox from Dale Grabowski, and I like it alot. Right now there isnt too good of organization to it. I have to do that. His website is www.grandpas-pastime.com Good quality and pretty good prices I would say. Hey does have the ultimate tool rack that can hold I think up to 400 tools. Hope this helped, Chris

change rivets on gun belt ?
Chris B replied to Chris B's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Thanks guys for the info. I will tell him that you said that. And no I do not have a local Tandy, the closest one is about 2 hours away...ROAD TRIP!! lol. Anyway, thanks for the info it sounds like I should be able to take it on. And Randy I will tell him you said congrats. I will be talking to you later, because I would like to get into making police gear for him and the force. Lol I like that about an oreo cookie..lol] Thanks, Chris -
My moms boyfriend just got promoted to sargent on the police force where he works. And his current gun belt or whatever is on it has silver rivets and now they have to have gold colored. He asked me if there is a way to change them before he has to buy a new rig. And yes I said buy, I am not good enough or i do not have enough tools to make him one. I would like to make him one, someday. Anyway, what would be involved in changing them out? I figure drilling them out and replacing them, but what setter would I need? And how would I tell what size they are? thanks, Chris

thinking of buying myself a good digital camera

Thanks again guys. I have look at those websites and thank you Ben. But I was looking and saw the macro focus range. And I am guessing that the higher the number the better? http://www.myproductadvisor.com/mpa/camera...0e&id=32951 I see this one has a 1 to 55 cm range, thats the one i have found through the sites advisor to help me find a camera that is right for me. And I have looked around again, and compared these two what do you all think?? http://www.myproductadvisor.com/mpa/camera...tedCheckboxes=4 Thanks Alot, Chris -
thinking of buying myself a good digital camera
Chris B replied to Chris B's topic in Leather Photography
Wow thanks guys. hopefully I will have one this weekend. About how many mega bites and mega pixels should I look for? And with this macro image stuff, does it have some sort of measurement to look for or what? Again, thanks alot. Bruce do you think that you could post some pictures of that frame that you made? Or is it just a rectangle and you put a light behind it? Thanks, Chris -
Well with Christmas coming up and all, when i have been asked what I want, I usually say gift cards from tandy or Hidecrafters. But I am thinking of buying myself a good digital camera that I can use to take good pictures to put up on the web. What are some good brands and models? And what do you all use? thanks, Chris
-
Wow!! Im gone for a weekend and you all just amaze me with all the info that you guys/gals have. I am going to have to look into those Henlys and Barry king. Yes I am tring to learn all of this on my own. And yes I am going to have to tweak my stropping/casing progess. Billy P, what is crocus cloth? I have never heard of it. And again you all amaze me by you wealth of knowledge. A little of topic here, but would anyone have any contact info for the leather guild in Columbus Ohio? I am wanting to attend, but dont know where to go and when. Thanks Alot, Chris
-
Well I am using an Al Stohlman brand from tandy. Where could I purchase a Barry King knife? And for stroping I have a business card with the rouge rubbed into it. And for casing I used the spray method with some dawn in it. I was firguring if I used a piece of leather, it would end up rounding off the edge of the blade. But I guess I was wrong. I will have to try that. Now when your case, do you let it sit over night or just case it and wait? I think that may be some of my problem. And probably the knife. Thanks, Chris
-
Ok so I was practing some today. And yes I tried to take pictures but they were fuzzy. Anyway, after I was done with the swivel knife, my hand was hurting from pushing so hard down and it felt like it was dragging. Now I had my swivel knife sharp and stroped it almost looked like a mirrow. It was all polished. But would it not being cased right cause that? And what is it supposed feel like when you are using your swivel knife? Like a hot knife through butter or harder? Thanks, Chris
-
Well...ummm we do have some local grocery stores..lol. And a Wal mar i can get to in about 15 minutes. But ya thats the closest tandy in Columbus and its every bit of 2 hours, and maybe a half an hour or 15 minutes... From what I heard back in the 70s and early 80s there used to be a tandy store about 30 minutes away, it would be nice to have one that close
-
Thanks guys. And no the closest tandy is about 2 and a half hours away. Kevin, are you looking to get rid of some bellies? Or are you just suggesting what I should look for? Thanks, Chris
-
Well since i am just starting out. I would like to know if anyone has any pieces of scrap they would be willing to sell? I just need some to pratice my tooling and stamping on. Thanks, Chris
-
Wow, thanks for all of that info...

Wow thats nice. How are you planning on finishing it? Wrapping it with a frame? Or are you going to find an exsiting clock? Chris
