  1. Now I like this idea. I always seem to have a couple of those notebooks floating around in the truck. Did you gouge the fold line? They look Great!!
  2. Ok I am going to kill 2 birds with on post on this. First off I see that alot of guys oil your projects before you dye them. What kind of oil do you use, Lexol, Fiebeings saddle soap??? And for the second question, for all of you saddle/tack makers out there what kind of finish do you use? To keep the saddles/gear waterproof and such? SuperSheen, or Tankote, Bagkote? Thanks, Chris

    Bouncing?

Thanks everyone again. I made one shot bag and put about 4000 bbs in it. lol It helped but I do need to make another one. And I have to get on the ball and make me a bench instead of the desk I have been using. Thanks Again, Chris
  4. Could someone post pictures of there awl holes? I bought the Art of Hand Sewing kit from Tandy, and after I ran the groover threw the hole it seems that its not wide enough for the awl. No matter which way I place the awl it still runs out of the channel. I dont have a clue what I am doing wrong?????

    Bouncing?

I have a small problem that I dont know how to resolve. When I am stamping at the bench my leather bounces off of the marble. But the only time it does it, is when I dont have a backing on the leather. But when I have it rubber cemented to the x-ray film I use the leather doesnt bounce, so I can get clearer tooling. So do you guys have any suggestions on what I can do on stuff that isnt going to get lined? Like belts, I dont plan on lining them but how can I stop the bounce with out having the cement residue left on the back? Thanks, Chris
  7. Looks good cowboy. Are those acrylics or dyes? And what brand of them?

  9. Would anyone happen to have a tooling pattern for a clutch purse they would be willing to share? Or direct me too one? Thanks, Chris
  10. Thanks guys. I am actually very surprised that I got them. I was told they were sold a long time ago, but I called anyway and found out I was wrong lol. Thanks again
  11. To start this off my Great-Grandfather used to tool leather in his basement. Thats when I was first introduced to leather work. And since i have gotten into it, I have always wondered what happened to all of his leather tools. Well I tracked them down in my family, and now they are in my possession!!!!! I was like a kid on Christmas morning Sat. when I got them!!! They all say Craftool CO and Craftool USA. Also there is one Ruby blade in there amongst the mix of everything. I am glad that I have them and will put them to good use. But I do have one question, those ruby blades, you dont have to strop them or sharpen them right? Any way here are the pictures.
  12. Thanks everyone. But does super sheen seal it? Or should I be using the atom wax? And I will do a search Kate, thank you!!!! Thanks, Chris
  13. Thanks everyone for the replys. The lacing wasnt as difficult as I thought it would be. Just getting started was the hard part with it. But once you get into a rythm it went smooth. Thanks Again, Chris
  14. Well here is my first completed project. I had a little bit of hard time finishing the lacing, but it went well (I think) for my first time doing it. Let me know what you think. Chris

    Leather Art

Those are awesome!!! What did you use to get the color?
  18. Ok tomorrow is my last class is at tandy and I am still confused about finishing leather. And with there big sale tomorrow I would like to buy some finishes. So far the only thing that I have been doing to finish the leather is to rub antique all over it and then spray it with Super Sheen. I dont even know if the stuff is waterproof. Also, I would like to add some color (maybe) to my stuff, but I dont know what to get. I see that they offer Cova Color and colored dyes....whats the difference? And what does highlighter do? And yes we have already went through the finishing steps class, but it went on so many different topics Im more confused then ever. And I have bought the book coloring with leather, but it hasnt helped me out much So is there anyone out there that would like to take the time and type out how they finish there leather??? Thanks, Chris
