  1. Ok if I would of googled I could saved a acouple of questions. Anyway is the ASE No.9 the same as the Luberto classic machine? Or did I read that wrong from there website? Thanks, Chris
  2. Wow thanks everyone!!! Wizcrafts thanks for all of the information you have typed!!!! Man you all Ya I forgot to metion I might be sewing bio plastics with this also. It seems more and more people are using those biothane harnesses. So a needle and awl machine might be out. Art where could I find a dealer for an ASE #9? Or are they out of production? But I think I need to invest probably in two machines eventually, depending of what goes on with the biothane, it seems I may be asking too much to be able to do both. Or maybe I think to much...Again thank you everyone for the replies!!!! Thanks, Chris
  3. Hello all, I know this question has probably been asked before but I will ask them again lol Any how Im thinking about going into harness making. But I have been researching machines and looking around and my head is spinning. Even with wizcrafts tutorial Im still confused as to what machines to presue. I know I need a machine that can sew at least 3/4" but I dont know about running a machine at its limits all the time. But I am just in the research phase right now to see what kind of cash I will have to come up with lol. But other then the thickness what else should I look for? And can you recommend a couple of machines to read about and research? Thanks, Chris
  4. Well I am thinking of starting to build harnesses. And before I take the plunge and buy a sewing machine Im doing some research first. I have read Making Harness By Lewis G. Martin and Daniel S. Preston, and in the pics it looks like they are using the already dyed leather. Is there any bad points to using pre-dyed leather? Or would I be better off getting the natural stuff and dying it on my own? Also with the harness leather, would it accept a makers stamp? And besides Weaver, where would be a good place to buy leather? Since I dont have a tax id number. Thanks, Chris
  5. Hmmmmm now Im wondering what this is lol
  6. Yep Im going with hames mcn got it id say. Wooden Hames
  7. Come to think of it, they did make hames out of wood. Is it wood covered with leather?
  8. I have only seen oxen being used with a yoke and thats it. I have never seen another part of harness on them.
  9. I have never been to the middle east or well out of north america lol. But can I offer this little suggestion, maybe introduce the children to some of our stuff over here that they have never seen or played. Like maybe baseball or apple pie (hey its all I can think of at this moment haha). Maybe they would like that.

    Harness Books?

Hello, I had a couple of people ask me some question about making and repairing harnesses, I was wondering, is there any good books out there on the subject? And where can I purchase them? Thanks, Chris
  13. Well guys thanks for all of the replies again. And just an update, I ended up with a Ford F350 srw. Its got the 7.3 and the six speed. All the dodges I looked at seemed to have right around 200,000 miles with the manual trans and they still wanted around 15,000 for them. I picked this truck up for 13 and it has 128,000 on it now. And so far so good. Although this truck has the 3.73s in it, it is nice on the highway btw. But as for pulling around the trailers I have a low hole on the trans to make up for the gearing. Thanks again for all of your guys help. Thanks, Chris
  14. Thanks Rik, I have already signed up over there at thedieselgarage.com But theres just a bunch of stuff to read lol. and I have been trying to make a list on what to look at in a truck. With the research and everything I have done, along with a few test drives. I have to say I want a Dodge lol, I like the power of a cummins. But with everything I have looked up, I dont have a clue on how to test the lift pump on the 24 valves before I buy one. And as soon as I buy one its getting a F.A.S.S. replacement lol. Thanks for all of your help everyone. Chris
  15. Thanks again guys. So far I have looked at a couple of trucks and have been doing a lot of research. So far I have looked at 2 dodges, both are the 24 valves with the 53 block..and they are cracked so I passed lol. But on monday I have an appointment to go and look at an 03 f250 4x4 with a 7.3 and a 6 speed. Hopefully this truck will be a winner. Again thanks to everybody. Thanks, Chris
  16. Wow thanks for all of the replies guys. I have been looking at diesels and I am a fan of manual transmissions. Its just hard to find one with a stick in it. My intetions with the truck are to pull around the horse trailer and the flatbed. Both goosenecks and a lil on the heavy side. Right now I have an 05 F 150 im going to get rid of. And I have been a ford fan all of my life, but I have researched the 6.0 and from what everyone has said, Im staying far away from them. And again trying to find a Dodge is almost trying to find a needle in a hay stack lol. Oh well thanks guys for all of the suggestionis. Im going to go and look around today and see what I can find. Oh and with the dodges, are there any age ranges to stay away from? Ive heard from the 99 down they had problems with the lift pumps going out. Thanks Again Guys, Chris
  17. Well I have been looking around to get a new truck (well new to me anyway). And I am going to get a 3/4 or a one ton. And Im looking for years between 98 and 04 or so. But do you guys have any opinions on any truck? OR what models I should shy away from? Sorry I didnt know where else to go for help... Thanks, Chris
  18. That looks great! But i do have one question how did you get your letters so black?
  19. Thanks for the replies guys. I never thought of a piece at each end, and I am going to try that pattern suggestion out. Thanks Guys, Chris
  20. Hello All, well hopefully on wednesday I will start building my bench it will be a do all bench and I want to inlay my piece of granite. I already have all of my dieminsions but I dont have a clue on which side to inlay the granite?? I am left handed so I dont know if I should put in on the right or left or in the middle. Oh this bench will be used from cutting out the leather to tooling and dyeing. Any suggestions? Thanks, Chris
  21. Hi Clint Im sorry I havent updated this but they have been sold.
  22. I have the whole set of Jeremiah Watt The Art of saddle making dvds. I have watched them once and must say they are great. But I have realised that I dont have the time to get into saddle making right now. I paid 400 for the set and would like to get 300 out of them, or I mite be interested in trading for some tools. Or I would throw in some extra cash for an older cast iron Boss. I will ship in a flat rate box, which is how it got shipped to me. I think it was around 5 bucks. Anyway, pm if your interested.
  23. Thanks for that Art. I wish I could order from Weaver but since I dont have a tax id number i cant.. and they are only an hour and a half north of me. I was in there show room and looked around, but since I couldnt buy anything I got out of there kinda quick lol. I dont know if getting a tax id number would screw up my taxes from my day job or not. And I wish there was a saddle maker in my area, I would try to work for them on my days off lol. Thanks, Chris
  24. Thanks again everyone. I really appreciate you guys taking your time to help me out. Thanks, Chris
