Also could you ellaborate on what you mean by soaked then boned leather handle? Soaked in water? dried? then cut with a knife to the desired shape? (is this the right track?)

How does it work for you? any changes that you would make to it if you re-did it?

Could you all be so kind to explain or give some input to my dillemna of understanding, or not understanding... I am wondering when and where to use a lifter on my tooling projects...just some general guidelines. I heard that you use it in order to assist with the 3D affect....however how to do this is what I need some guidelines for. Thank you Your friend, Daniel

I am an amateur but improving. I also have not been completing many projects but got about 10 on the go...lol. I am affraid of dyes and colors and wrecking more of my tooling from crappy colors and color coordination. But who can go wrong on black, red and white and saddle tans? I see a few ways to improve which will only actualize with more practice once i get these techniques improved I will be asking for more feedback...giving myself alot of room for learning and leeway. your friend, Daniel

well thankyou all once again...COPPER RIVETS IT IS!!!!

the rivets I use are from tandy and are not very strong, I have not yet used copper rivets ( I assumed they would be soft. I am wanting to repair a iron worker belt for my buddy and needs rivets. But these tandy rivets are garbage. It has to be super strong rivets.

I must add I dont mean that the genre is disliked i just come from a new school and sub culture within the americas...I appreciate all of the work done on this site in absolution and this is a prime example of ways I can be inspired from every genre....thank you for sharing!

I am in middle of making my first type of lap top case...it is more like a tooled sleeve or envelope......I formed leather then i am preparing to do a double loop lace around the edge....

Also i am even more curious about the last 100 years of leather tooling and the style variances and famous leather workers that may have utilized different styles.....for instance lots of western type saddles etc.....was there famous rebel type in the 50s? greasers etc etc.......the different artist icons in western and global leather communities and the different social imprints people have left behind in their own contributions to leather legacy I dont mean hides....i am talkin leather....did they have this knowledge before? is there any specific academics or papers or literature on these topics that you all could direct me to?
-
Ya it was a pretty generalized question indeed. To clarify....I am interested i reading about the orgins of leather tooling and the socail implications and status that may have gone along with it. I am also interested in following the legacy of leather tooling and such. I am also curious as to the beginnings of utilization of leather (in general)...not hides but leather....was it strictly for battle? and armors? when did it transform into decrotive? artistic origins of leather tooling....that is my main inquiry Thank you

Does anyone know of the names of historians, anthropologists or sociologists of any sort who have done specific studies, research, literature reviews or leather encounters of history of man kind? and even further the beginnings of tooled and painted leather? also the history of leather guilds? where was the first? Anybody know of history of native americans utilizing leather post European colonialist contact? or prior?

so I have 2 option sin my area to buy sewing maching an old nakijima (or something like that) and a brand new sunstar.... trying to figure out which one is best and as i can find in bc canada the best one on market is the sunstar except the parts are expensive. I want to to belt linings, sew tooled leather onto motorcycle seats, stools integrate tooling in upholstry......and so on....I would one day like to make holsters at least a few......maybe with posibility to make a corset or 2 as well....for some fair maiden.... Now this being said i dont plan on using the machine alot.....maybe next to nuthin lol....we will see.....but i do like the sunstar cuz it is silent except for the needle movement.....where as the old japanese one is super loud like all others i have ever seen.....I would purchase a long arm as well one day in the future.....but i have never used a sewing machine, except one to sew leather to practice a stitch and it wa sfun fun.....I wanna get one and i need help i am pretty overwhelmed with knowing whether or not i am making a mistake.....I also affraid to order one fom USA cuz of shipping prices and famous border customs stealing things...I have had it in the past....also a mechanic to tune machines in my area would be nice... I need input
