  2. geez i wonder if that knife could e turned into a sharp enough edge for leatehr work.....or caping animals...pretty cool looking if you ask me......
  3. I used the tandy pliers type once,,,,had nothing but trouble......but I use the cheap tandy hand tool punch...i think it cost 4 dollars.....and it is the bestest ever! there is maxi and mini punch sets.....both come with hand tool with detachable ends......works great....
  4. Wild is this a burgundy latigo or is this dyed veg tan?
  5. Wild, Alcohol based wood dye that you use is an actual dye? or more like a stain? Do you use anything to dillute your colors? what is gel antique? with mink oil that is your last touch to it? you ont add laquer nor a sheen? or anything else? What I have learnt about my eco flow color run is that whn i mist the piece with spray.....the beads of water are absorbing color upward....as if the color is sitting on the surface and the super sheen has not sealed it enough perhaps the solids in the color have risen up through the super sheen after i sprayed it.......it is like the water syphons the color solids up or something.......so i am gonna attempt to buff out these solids on these already completed pieces with a shoe polish block to see if that will pull out the solids...... then i think i will mink oil the piece to try that......... I have another Q!!!!! I was told mixing my dyes and/or stains with Lexol leather conditioner may prevent this sort of thing from happening and to alsp lightly case leather prior to dying or staining.....any thoughts?
  6. Thank you greatly to person who started this thread and then also for your solutions i am heading to my local rip off artist to buy some supplies.....to bad i did nothave patience or i would order from the city instead of this bastard guy...lol I will post my outcome on here in hopes to help the thread author......please let me know as well how yours turns out.....you saved me from giving away these articles i made that i am proud off to only hear they may run colors....
  7. I just did a test on all my projects here and mine are now running as well when wet...... Is it possible to treat these colors although i have already put sheen on them?
  8. I think I may cry now....... I been using these same tandy ECO colors...I have done a crap load of projects so far....in the winter and now I guess I will need to see how and if they hold up to the elements.....if they dont I guess I will be throwing them in the garbage? Would there be any way to salvage these already completed projects.... I been putting the colors (dyes and/or stains) and then spray on super sheen....tandy told me when i bought everything that is good enough....did not make sense to me but they all said they do leather work.....but I know for a fact after learning on this site that those employees are either greener than me (cuz they dont have this site) or they really dont know what the hell they are talking about..... I am concerned now about my finished projects..... I feel your pain, somewhat now!
  9. i use a rotary knife...but man it dont cut so well.....What kind of exacto knife would a guy use? All exacto/utility knives i know suck.....I used to frame houses and they would even break on plastic lol
  10. they look really nice! but......... what the heck are these thing?
  11. My experience so far is to say it depends on what style you want....you can make one to wrap around your whole arm or only protect your inner forearm.... My friend prefers the full arm armour with atight latigo lace when he wears it. I prefer a small angled piece that only covers inside of my forearm utilizing a stratchy 1/8 inch cord. Ultimately I have found if i allow myself to stray from uniforming my style to someone elses ultimately the shape of the thing is irrellevant as long as it is functional.... i will also add that the small ones look "skimpy" until it has a finish braid added to the edges...... I like using earth tones and celtic knots....
  12. HAHAHAHA I bought the exact same stylus you got in your tool rack...I bought it today for $3.00
  13. I am curious if you all use the swivel knife in sections or the whole line and then the seeder splain like this.....do you use a staright edge- then do a small knife cut then stamp seeder- then cut again then use seeder stamp...etc etc or do you cut your full line then stamp on the line or do you use straight line and stamp all the seeders then cut in between every stamp?
  14. Is that even possible? Would you not need all the variables included like : length of lacing area, how many holes, how far apart the holes are spaced, what size of lace and angles and curves taken into account.... I would think thats impossible almost.////but I have nearly no experience with lacing just attempting my first project now....i thought i would through in my 2 cents just cuz i got a pocket full of change
  15. Simply this is my favorite gun and holster of all time~~~~~~ Living in CANADA unfortunately leaves me in a predicament that I am unable to holster this type of firearm legally and is unable to be fired anywhere in CANADA except at the gun range (where you can not holster a firearm nonetheless). This is the only reason I would love to live in the USA.....
  16. This sling looks awesome! I am curious as to the width of the widest part of this sling......
  17. Denise, where are you located? I am actually close to Farmington.....I go there often...it was a shock to hear someone in my area has connection to this board Daniel
  18. I am new to tooling as well....I have been using dollar store masking tape in order to old my paper still on the leather. I am about to make a "lazy susan" because i spin the piece alot when using knife or bevel tool.....its working so far but I am wondering if i do this a bit much. I find a very light squirt of water around the out side of the image (not getting image wet nor the leather directly under) helps to hold the paper still....it acts like a adherant somewhat which i then use tiny tiny pieces of tape to hold 4 directions on outside where i had watered lightly.....
  19. Can someone please post an example of a split tooled...not the smooth side.... When a leather is split there is 1 smooth side and 3 rough sides? (this may sound elementry however I dont like assuming anything)..
  20. I a curious as to what type of equipment for airbrushing you all have.... I know there are many types of equipment out there and determinung what type of airbrushing you do will determine the equipment you want......what is needed for leather work jobs? any and all info will be appreciated....
  21. Is it feesable and possible to tool spilt leather? I am assuming only one side is toolable......is this accurate assumption? what are uses of split veg tan?
  22. Maybe this site would help you.....look at this "secret braid" http://www.ohboydenterprises.com/Instructi...rBracelets.html
