  2. By blocking,do you mean block dye process? way that tom states with cotton balls in linen resulting in coloring high spots??
  3. AWESOME!! I do have a question...you got a mirror on your work bench, what do you use that for? Please dont say vanity or watching yourself or combing your hair (unless your bald)....serious Q though whats the mirror fer?
  4. I have offered this in the past to someone else here... I have a video set on how to skin a deer, and on how to tan a hide into buckskin, there may even be the rawhide element too. As well it has ways to make primitive bows and tools and such. The trouble is my dvd burner died. The usb thumbdrives are to much for me to buy in order to ship them for the size needed. If tehre is a way to send this video to you I will. It took digging but I found them free online in torrents...

Scary Dave was my first find on the internet when i searched for leather work which resulted in coffin bookmarks....I then found his song Anger is a Weakness and it resonated with me big time...ever since instead of TV I often watch The church of Dave channel on you tube....this is done in his inspiration to me... I am an 80s hair metal cheesey boy....

  9. Leatherman, Your right i been finding that repeating same patterns and styles is useful for developing increased skill level. I had been trying different things but I am going to focus on developing skill through repitition. I appreciate your comments. Colors are my worst nightmare!!...finding ways to coordinate colors is impossible...what i mean is color ccordination is something I do not understand.....I was gonna use green and black but someone said dont do that its not coordinated...so i said white pink and black...they said no...lol....I have ruined so many of my pieces cuz of ill color coordination...I searched online for color cordination themes and cant find any...any suggestions to colors that go together good? other then red and black? I found a metal/goth store to sell these types of bracers so i am gonna experiement already cut to more bracers today....as of january my amateur leather sales is my only way to pay for gas while i am in university...and I gotta find way to buy sewing machine....

I followed your instructions for a simple block dye TOM SWEDE...this thing is not only comfortable but was fun to make....I thank you for your help I am going to experiment with colors and such and try to incorporate my own style somewhat....dont wanna continuously rip you off but then again...I LOVE YOUR WORK....THANK YOU Daniel

  13. Dave, Is this welt, using the same leather, glued in? Because I am doing the double loop basic lace with kangaroo lace. I have not yet stitched leather. I am trying to learn from books. It is hard for me to comprehend and have not yet watched instructions on you tube but will soon. Thank you for your help!
  14. I made a knife sheath for first time. I laced the side, not stitched. I am wondering if there are any idea of how to protect the lace from getting cut from the blade. What could i use?

  17. I ave learnt to cut a straight line on the hide. The to take the strap cutter ensuring I hold it evenly through the whle process. Anytime i lift it higher or turnit in the slightest i get variations.....also I learnt that my perfectionism is a hinderance to my creativity.....after all we are learning to do custom hand crafted art...there is no perfect...although looking at this site then my own work my ego starts to compare everything and chastize my work...even the way i cut leather...for me this is a detriment to my work. I am learning and only sharing with you my experience so far. Take care
  18. I struggle alot with processing imagery and colors. I am not an artistic person although I do my best to allow my creativity to flow. I do thi sin order for personal development and achiveing a level of peace I did not have prior to what i accomplished so far. I am not artistic nor an artist; I am simply doing my best to awaken this aspect of my brain for many reasons. I love the outcomes of leather work and never net a leather worker. Now I have met many on here!!! and I appreciate all the input..... Your friend, Daniel
