When Did Y'all Make The Switch?
Eaglestroker replied to glockanator's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I started with W&C. Your only as good as your raw materials IMO. -
I dealt with Alex and SHE was awesome. I ordered two stamps and had them both in my hands within 7 days.

My Try At The Defender Style
Eaglestroker replied to Abram's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Looks very nice. On the full length reinforcement, I might kick the toe in to match the stitching line of the holster. Just a thought! -
We've Lost One Of Our Own

Very sad to hear this. Condolences to the family. -
You gotta cheat somewhere, Shooter. Mark: In my experience I've never had leather shrink to that degree with heat. Maybe it's luck? Every time I heat dried a piece I got a tighter fitting piece, so I build an oven. My pattern doesn't change no matter what choice I make in drying. Doesn't mean I'm right!

Leatherburnishers.com Signing Off...
Eaglestroker replied to Spinner's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
I never did order my second one to attach canvas too. Hopefully my original doesn't go out on my anytime soon! -
The tighter the stitch line, and the faster you remove moisture (think oven) the tighter the holster. I couldn't tell you exactly what causes it but I have experienced it. It's strange because my process hasn't change a whole lot from over a year ago when I first started. The bigger difference is experience. My first holster holds the gun well - but it doesn't have the 'click' something I would make now does. Here's a sloppy photo of a loaded L-frame (minus one) in one of my more popular holsters, upside down:

Do You Heat-Dry Your Items?
Eaglestroker replied to JoelR's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I thought I would share this with you fellas. I had been working on it when the thread was started and it's held up well. Essentially a hot plate and a bathroom fan. Very simple and stays at a constant 137*. -

Some Recent Exotic Work
Eaglestroker replied to JRCHolsters's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I have some undied elephant from Springfield and it is very nice. It and buffalo are my favorites! Regarding the gator it would be 6-800 for the hornback hide. I have yet to do exotics so that would be a great leap of faith! -
Some Recent Exotic Work
Eaglestroker replied to JRCHolsters's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
All looks excellent, the cognac elephant is my favorite however. Where do you get yours from? On a side note I had a fellow offer me a 6' 8" gator skin not to long ago that he killed last year (legally). When I saw how much the hides cost to get tanned I had to polite-fully decline! -

Do You Heat-Dry Your Items?
Eaglestroker replied to JoelR's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I am in the process of building a cabinet similar to this: http://advancedsurvivalguide.com/2010/11/03/diy-build-a-forced-air-food-dehydrator/ I have tried the oven, heat guns, etc and all have worked well (minus the one time I friend one with a heat gun). I prefer to work in groups so being able to mold 10 holsters at the same time is the end goal here. -
Knife Sheath Troubles
Eaglestroker replied to AMMO's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Use a center welt. A piece of leather with space for the blade cut out, so the blade never contacts the stitching. -

Tk, it's a thumb rest. By a hardcore this would be a 'carry strap.' -
A recent batch that all turned out better than expected. Critiques and comments welcome as always
