thanks again everyone!! having a nice evening and fixing to sit down and play with some new tools!! i sure hope to meet you some day david. maybe i can plan to hit that show on the way to visit my parent's. it's a bit out of the way but, i've been that way before
-
c'mon now... you guys can't be that bad thanks!!
-
nice clean job! i too like the color
-
thanks all!! i took a half day to spend some time with my wife and son. supposed to be getting some new barry king tools
-
thanks guys! i think with all the work I've been getting, I've kinda turned a corner and my work seems to be more consistent. yea... after taking the pics and spending some time looking things over, i went back over her face and softened it up a bit and also got rid of the hard line between the face and hair line. not much color on the face. i think the coloring on the eyes really make it! i picked up those few feather tools you mentioned and used the f120 and f121. i found the f121 works much better if you walk it like a beveler. i ended up using a horizontal lined pear shader on the larger feathers and now that i think about it, I'm pretty sure it's the same tool i used on the pinup's hair and used my hair tool for the stockings. i was real pleased with the result

thanks guys!! the artwork is copyrighted and the customer got permission to use it for this seat. i try to see where i can improve each and every time i tool something. i am fortunate enough to have enough work coming in right now to have plenty of practice

well here it is done. i'm pretty happy with it. faces are always a challenge when i have to do them. i think i've finally done enough that i'm starting to get a feel for them.

thanks don! the stockings were done with a fine hair tool with the leather cased just right and a light touch
-
WOW! thanks for all the compliments and comments!!!! the seat will be black and the tooling will stay close to natural. i may dye it saddle tan... bighearn... 99% of the time i am working with customer supplied seats or seat pans. some guys pic up a used seat on ebay to send me. if you want to cover your own i am more than happy to answer any questions you might have. Thanks and no! i use real steep bevelers and a lifter that i made

i use 3-4 oz leather for the side of the seat and it is one piece. pecard's is similar to aussie conditioner. hd sells pecards in under thier own brand if you can get it. it is a water proofer/conditioner and it's all i use anymore. i have had not problems using it over any dyes

well... i screwed up and didn't realize i was out of the lace needed for the eagle seat so, i started this one since i'm waiting on lace. i did soften up the face a bit after looking at the pics. i haven't done a pinup in quite some time but, i'm pretty happy with the detail

let me know if i can answer any other questions. my methode does require lots of pulling and some times i need to let it set, wet it again and remove the rivets and go at it a second time in certain areas. top coat... i try to only seal my seats with pecards... a couple coats make a seat water proof. you can order it right from thier web site
-
Thanks!! i don't charge near what i should thanks grumpy! the seat will be black. i am hoping to leave the tooling close to natural with maybe a hint of white on the head feathers
-
thanks tom!! i make a pattern for each seat i make and i just go by what looks good to me. this type of seat is a bit of a challenge to get the cover tight around the sides on the back area of the seat..takes lots of pulling! since you asked soooo nice(i had everything wraped and boxed) i pulled the seat back out and took a couple pics. the bottom is covered but, it is smooth around the bottom and pop riveted in place.

i have a bunch of craft tools but, i am buying barry king tools as i can. i sure wish tandy would come up with some better tools and not rape ya for them. with the buying power they have. they could come out with a better line of tools at a good price similar to the line hide crafter has i hear over and over that robert beard makes the best tools out there but, i will never be able to afford them and i will not wait 6,9,12 months for a tool! i can order anything barry makes and get it right away! i am waiting for my birthday $$$ at the moment to order some more of his tools. they are the best as far as i'm concerned. can't wait!!!!!!

Thanks Spider! This is a recovered LePera Saddle for a HD soft tail Thanks! with the lining the bag is 12-14oz. i started using lexan to stiffen the bag through the mounting area across the back and a strip across the front in the area of the snaps. Thanks to all for the comments! Talked them out of a completetly black seat again
