thanks for all the responces!!! david, the heel of the bevel rubs my finger as i walk it so covering the shank won't help. what i think i'm going to do is file the part that extends out past the shank and polish it up i use leather from a few places.. mostly weaver and siegel. i gerenally use 3-4 oz for sides from tandy. the store i order from generally send nice big hides quite often 28+sf

thanks guys!! this is a real big solo seat. the tooled piece is around 17" x 20" i'm waiting on lace for this one so i have another one to tool today. we'll see how the blister holds up

not a bad first attempt at all! slots would be the better way to go if you pick up a set of thonging chisels. other than that...your lacing looks pretty consistent

very classy piece David. small parallel lines are the most difficult. Is that lace pattern posted here somewhere? I'd like to try myself

LOL! i may have to try that thanks luke! the problem i am having is only with my biggest bevel. the face sticks out just a bit past the shank so the edge is rubbing my finger instead of the smooth shank. i think i'll file that area away and polish it up

thanks ken! this one will also have round braid the pebblers i have are from hide crafters. i really want to come up with my own pattern. some sort of modified pebbler. just not sure how i want to change it yet. i just love the texture!!

started this one today. it's a pretty good size seat for a triumph rocket 3. blistered my finger using my largest bevel! it's on the tip of the finger that i steady my bevels with when walking them. i just kept hoping it wouldn't pop while tooling.

GOOD NEWS!! It will be a light color! thanks tom! it is mexican basketweave/ round braid. i use shorter legnths of lace 5-6 feet and slice it as i go. takes much less time to splice then it does to try and pull all that lace. thanks froghunter! i don't look forward to all that lacing but, it sure looks nice when it's done

well actually started it saturday about seven hours in the lacing. i am waiting to hear back from the customer as to the final color. i am hoping once again that it won't be black
