  1. thanks art! that is sorta what i thought welting was. that would be one stiff, hard seam for sure!
  2. sounds like that would be too bulky for a motorcycle seat
  3. to be honest i'm not sure what a welted seam is. i guess it's "the look" that everyone wants thier seats are either laced or saddle stitched
  4. sorry i didn't see this already! i have been use 5-6oz leather for the seat top. that is an aftermarket seat and you should be able to re-shape it rather that replace it. that stuff is generally moulded right to the pan. keep in mind that you need to maintain the roundness up into the back area of the seat if you do re-foam it. it will be rather uncomfortable if you don't
  5. Thanks Bruce! yes, the whole seat is airbrushed. buckskin, brit saddle tan and mahogany
  6. thanks! seems to be one of my more popular color combinations
  7. thanks yall!! it's been a while since i have finished one like this. seems like every time i do i get a bunch to do the same way

  11. i kinda remember someone somewhere had made some leather neckties. anyone have a methode?
  12. i use one now and then. i also use a diamond point awl.
  13. nice stuff dan! i wish i could find the time to do those kinds of projects for myself. i may have to make myself a mouse pad. i really like the way that came out!

welcome to the forum steven! you will have to post some pics of your work. i am always interested in what other people are making and how they get it done
  16. much less material since it is full of air. that is also why it is much lighter. the original stuff is solid
  17. art.. have ytou tried the air-frothed stuf at all? i may have to order a small piece and chack it out:)
  18. there are quite a few licensed dealer around. i ran these guys at a local motorcycle show. they have been great to work with and generally give me a price break. the inserts they sell are 1/2" thick. i have not seen or heard of the air-frothed stuff. i guess i'll have to look for it. thanks!
  19. it is something that takes some time and understanding. i do find it easier to spot mistakes or areas for improvement from photos. i have started taking pics when i'm about done with tooling and study them for things i may have missed
  20. well.. looking at the leaf i see a couple things. you need to work on walking your bevel a bit better and strike the tool more consistantly. i was told you should only move the bevel about 1/4th of it's width with each strike. it also looks like you missed beveling in the swivel cuts in quite a few places. just wondering if the leather was a bit too wet or re-wet and the cuts closed up some making things more dificult your decritive cuts need work and you have quite a few "ticks" where you cut a bit too far with your swivel knife.
  21. i like it! just a bit of color makes quite a difference
  22. don't know if you saw my reply on flasah. i use polymer insert on my seats. ut is supposed to be a better permorming material. if you contact them , they will sell just the inserts at a lower price http://brooklynbuttbuffer.com/
  23. very nice!! almost a shame to color it
  24. wow dave! that is quite a bunch of seats going at once!! i find more time than not, it's easy to talk the customer out of black. it's just that is what they are used to. if i do have to make it all black i tool a bit differently. less detail and more texture to help it stand out as much as possible
