  2. hello yes there is does your 205 have a speed reducer on it that is a bracket mounted under the machine where the belt on the motor run to a bigger pulley and the belt on the head of machine hooks on a smaller pulley . you can also use a 1 3/4 pulley on your machine motor also i just purchased a new motor from weaver that has a dial on it to run as slow or as fast as you want it is great!!!! i also have a 205-64 alder. they also sell the speed reducers hope this helps john
  3. hello i am sure that the wrangler is a good swivel knife but i just had henley build me a swivel knife, and i seem to like it the best of all mine barry king, hackbar,old smothie, and the henley cost a lot less than the wrangler but all that is just my personal opion. and i also just use a swivel knife and deviders to cut my borders. john
  4. well what i do is go to wal-mart or office supply store buy a small trash can that will determen the height and diameter of the leather can. when finished i will put a plastic bag in the small trash can to keep anything that they might throw in it (empty pop can etc) from leaking through on to my leather one . hope this helps john
  5. no i dont use a trash can what i do is get me a small trash can and then build my leather one ,once lined and tooled i set the small one inside so it is easy to empty, also i put a plastic liner in the small one. the small trash can will determine the size of your leather one. hope that makes since. if not just let me know and i will try to do a better job of explaining it. thanks for all the nice complents

  7. all my rope bags are round they have a pocket on the side for powder and gloves, most have a double zipper and a divider in the center hope this helps let me know if i can be of any more help john

  9. thank for the kind compliment on my work i have seen some of your work and think you do some alfull nice work your self,about the v.a. that is what i am thinking some basic belts b/w, geometric, some wallets that you lace together,maybe some costers things along that line are what i am looking at doing. i just got off the phone with our tandy store and they are willing to give me anything i need for the classes, also w/c leather co is willing to donate leather, i just have to remember the basic, this is something i fell real strong about, because i know how much it has helped me over the years. i may take you up on your offer about advice once i get this thing going and thanks to you and your guild. semper fi! john
  10. just wanted to let you know that is one awsome belt, great job on the back and the front i really like the way you did the acorns it has nice flow to it. other than that it is a real nice job.
  11. i want to thank everbody for all their input on this and yes i have been in contact with several rehabiliton doctors and there will be some that just need this to help with their hand and eye cordenation, and some that just need to fell like they have a purpose in life. semper fi everbody
  12. thanks Aaron, i think i will start with basic belts and checkbook covers, coasters and small things like that. i have to remember keep it simple, i have already contacted tandy leather co and they are will to donate anything i need and wickett&craig is willing to donate leather. the hardest part for me is keepinh it simple i have done this so long that i sometimes go overboard on my projects. but that is a good suggestion on gathering tools thanks for the advice john
  13. hello everbody my name is john ivy(ivycustomleather.com) i have done leatherwork for 20yrs, but have never given a class on it , i am a100% disable vet(usmc) and i am wanting to donate one or two days a week at the local v.a. hospital, putting on basic leather classes for our troops coming home. it will be part of their phy/mental therphy.something to help keep their mind busy while they are recovering. i need some ideas of what would be good starter classes. all input will be welcome. feel free to check out my gallery of work.   16. hello i always use the mexican round braid on all my lacing it is a little harder but has alot cleaner look to it when finished that is only my personal opion and we all know what opions are worth. i have inclosed a picture of one of the belt i made that has the mexican round braid.

  23. bob that stamp is one that just takes a lot of pratice the most important part is to keep the stamp straight and plumb so the next stamp lines up with the last i usally go back with a smallseeder and stamp the center of the stamp and the legs that join each other hope this makes since again thanks for the compliment john
  24. bob' thanks for the nice comment on the bag i agree about the stamped letters but as we talked i went to far in the hole on this to add carved letters but i agree hole hartley about the letters if i keep practing one of these days i might be able to carry water for you. your friend john
