  1. This riddle possibly solved. Will not know outcome 'til next week. Waiting on shipment of product. **Possible trade secret in the works... I'm way excited it would be my first !
  2. Some of your thoughts I agree with, but I can't help but to think that it's a transfer of sorts. My opinion of it is this. The print is made on some type of paper, that could either be heat transferable or rub transferable. I find it hard to believe that this was traced by hand, the lines are all very symetrical and the same width throughout the design. I'm wondering if the print was made on regular printing paper, then a transfer pen ( weird little gadget but cool none the less) was rubbed on it to transfer the ink to the leather. The other curious part is that, it appears to be somewhat permanent because the machine did not rub any of it off.
  3. I tried printing a red circle on the tracing film then rubbing it off onto some black chrome tan. It doesn't rub off like you would think. It doesn't appear on the leather at all to be honest. I was able to rub it off on my hands though. Good thought, but didn't work. ( God i was soooo hopeful Drac, thanks)
  4. Hello everyone, I posted a wallet a few days ago and someone mentioned my inlays needed some attention. I've come across another wallet makers stuff and found something quite interesting about it. Take a look at the image and let me know what your thoughts are about what I've pointed out. The line is very defined and straight. The circle is perfect, so not done by hand. I thought thermograph at first but can't find any stencil paper that prints in red. So i'm interested in everyones thought process about this as this may help me tweek some things that need it. Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this post.
  5. Hey Tom, Thanks for words of inspiration. The paper was taken out of a sketch book. I took 10 pieces of sketchbook paper sized 10"x7" and folded them in half. I punched holes 1 inch up from edge then 1.5 inch from the first hole. I used Sinew to run through the holes starting in the back. It's definitely no professional binding job by no means but should do the trick for my 5yr old.
  6. My daughter requested a dream journal. She's been watching a movie called sharkboy and lava girl. There is a character in there named max that carries this dream journal. So i decided to make it for her. I did the binding of the paper and that was the really fun part. The leatherwork was pretty quick and painless.
  7. Thanks guys for the kind words. I enjoy doing these wallets and always look forward to any type of critique you may have. TwinOaks mentioned smoothness of the inlays. I'm always looking to inmprove on something and if you see something and have some insight I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks again everyone.
  8. I purchase MLC Black flame retardent foam from Specialty foams in Washington state. Their website is www.irfoam.com
  9. Recently did 2 wallets. 1 for me and the other for sale. THe designs are very similar and used the same materials. Royal Flush Black elephant body with black stingray in the eyes accented with tribal art along the border with contrasting stitching, red suede with contrast stitching for the crown and eye patch. Plus a new red & black SKULL & ROSES LINING and holding everything where it belongs is a Skull snap. Royalty Black elephant body with black stingray in the eyes accented with tribal art along the border with contrasting stitching, red suede with contrast stitching for the crown and eye patch. Plus a new red & black SKULL & ROSES LINING and holding everything where it belongs is a iron cross snap. This one is the one I kept.
  10. Oh man that's exactly what I need at this point in time. Unfortunately money is tight at the moment.
  11. I use a french edge on my wallets but there are times with other pieces that I need to put a smooth edge on the layers of leather. The comercial guys do it, so i know it can be done. It's figuring out the process that is always the tough part.
  12. I'm trying to figure out the best way to burnish the edge of chrome tan leathers. I have a piece of elephant hide sandwiched between 2 layers of 2oz chrome tan. I've glued them together using masters contact cement. I've tried using gum trag to burnish but I can still see the individual layers and after a period of time then layers eventually seperate. I'm trying to find the right combination of products to give me that comercial look of an edge. Someone recomended this yankee wax Anyone have some ideas how to go about doing this?
  13. Yankee Wax Crayons, From my understanding you can use these to do edgeing , anyone familiar or have a project they've used this stuff on so I can see an example?
  14. ahhh super cool, Cant wait to see it finished up
  15. Did someone say Anarchy? Cool booth and great pics Spider.

  18. Ok, im doing a project right now that involves some inlays and overlays etc with several different layers. The process i'm using in ooooooooober painful. I'd like to hear everyones best method for this, do you cut the shapes first then sew, or sew then cut around the align then stitch blah blah blah. I wish I could find an overlay inlay pro somewhere, I need help !
