  1. Great Job Dan, The flask cover looks grrreeaaat!
  2. I used to teach a few photoshop classes so if you guys ever have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.
  3. Wouldn't it be nice if you could enlarge your images over 1000% with no loss of image quality? How about taking a scanned postage stamp and turning it into a billboard? If you've never heard of anything like this take a look at a program called Genuine Fractals 5. You can read all about it and purchase it from onOne Software. For all you creative online folks i'm sure you can find it elsewhere.
  4. Very cool. How many seats have you done for bikes so far? I"m getting all my tools together now to do my first seat is the reason I ask.

    WOW ! Very cool.
  6. Suze, As beaverslayer said, beware just hanging out you'll catch the leather bug. I've been around for about a month here and was just admiring and asking questions about the art. Well low and behold I just posted my first piece. I look forward to seeing some of your work, BTW the 15' necklace looks wonderful I'd be interested to know if it was easier to make the entire length then cut it to individual sizes.
  7. Ahh thanks guys Im going to start working on this thing, does that look like 6oz leather or maybe 4?
  8. wicked, what antique did you use on those?
  9. I would love to make this cuff. I have a few questions about it that you folks may be able to answer. 1) what color dye do you think was used, or what method do you think was used to get the color 2) the spots/rivets (not sure what they are, could you tell me) are they nickel plated or just stainless steel? What do you think? 3) the buckles, anyone ever seen these? Where to get them? are they nickel or stainless? 4) The gray material inside the cuff, any clues as to what that is?
  10. Cool bibs, What weight leather did you use on those?
  11. Hello Julie, Welcome to the forum
  12. I'm curious, when i see all this leather with all these vibrant colors on it I can't help thinking that somehow that has to harm the leather. Does it close the poors of the leather and deteriorate it? Well anyway, the question is I want to start putting some paint on a few projects and I would like to know the best type of paint to use and where to purchase it as well as the best procedure of getting on the leather. Example: brush, air brush, etc...
  13. weeee ! ! Thanks guys You just saved my arse, i just called a counter top installer and they will give me a piece of granite out of their scrap that is around 24x24x1 1/2 inch.
  14. I'm a complete newbie here and want to say thank you for the excellent presentation of this tutorial. On a second note, paying $50 - $60 per insert is a very high price to pay when you can purchase from the manufacturer of the gel who buttbuffer used for half that price and make 2 inserts out of the size they will send you. They no longer cut the shape for you which allows you more freedom to design a comfortable seat. ( use a pair of shears and silicone spray to cut it your shape) They also have the final layer that we usually put on the seat and it is a frothed gel which is absolutely amazing. (your ass will thank you for using this) You can do all that for way less beezachoppa. I do not work for this company, I'm a biker/new tooler that wanted more comfort out of his seat and found the solution in Kemmler Products. You can visit them www.kemmlerproducts.com These are the guys that sold to buttbuffer and got them their reputation, I can't speak highly enough of Tom over at kemmler. He's been helping me make peoples motorcycle seats comfortable for a while now. Your customers will want to kiss you ! Couple of question though.. Which beveler did you use to stamp with, those bevels are extremely clean, and so far mine have come out way too fat ! What weight are you using for the top of the seat? 6-7oz Why is the side pieces of leather white?
  15. David, The idea is great and I can only add a graphic designers tilt to this. The idea of taking the images from a tandy catalog is excellent. Once you've pulled those images into whichever program you use I would trace those images and save as a brush or define it as a pattern. That way when you wanted to fill a background you could just put that on it's own layer use the fill tool then select the pattern you defined et voila. I use adobe products for all my graphics work so I can't speak for Corel Draw. I would have to assume they all have the same tools, maybe called something different and located somewhere different within each individual program. I could be down the wrong path in helping but here are a few examples. The Pattern created The Pattern Applied to selected area of image. Hopefully this helps you.
  16. Hello everyone, Thanks to the admin for permissions to post etc. Anyway, im new to the forum and am extremely interested in becoming a leatherworker. My main inspiration is from a few of you folks doing some insane work after a couple of years of training. My story starts out with my motorcycle seat that makes my legs fall asleep. I'm sure you all can understand my concern for my own safety and I need something else to do during the winter months instead of turn my computer into the most expensive solitaire machine. So via this forum I've found kemmler products which was a HUGE bonus because i've been looking for not only closed cell foam but their polymers as well. It was an unexpected find but a very welcomed one. The goal here is to design my very own, my very first, leather motorcycle seat from scratch. That means learning how to tool leather. Getting the tools, learning the trade and enjoying somehting other than my odds at making all the cards spin around on my computer monitor. This leads me to my next few questions. 1) How to get started 2) Where to buy the tools 3) What books to read/DVD's to watch etc 4) How to find a leather tooling jedi looking for a 36yr old apprentice. (Damn i just told everyone my age, oh well this is after all the introduction forum) So if any of you can start pointing me in the propper direction i would surely appreciate it. Thanks a ton , Regards, JustWakinUp
