  1. I have the outlaw and have been using it for a couple years. I really like it. I haven't found any negatives so far. Built like a tank. Simple to operate even for me.
  2. I have a Typical that is basically a clone of the juki 1541. I swapped clutch motor to servo that helped but not enough so today I added speed reducer but it really didn't work like those I see on YouTube. I'd like to be able to do one stitch at a time. With servo turned down it doesn't go at all then when turn servo up enough to go then it's faster than I want especially to go around corners etc. I have a very short video if I can post if anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it.
  3. Gotta hold both threads taught for first 2 or 3 stitches. Then gotta crank the handle like you mean it. I've had mine 2 years no problems as long as you follow their instructions.
  4. I have been using my outlaw machine about 2 years. Basic hobby stuff. Holsters sheaths a couple smaller bags etc. I have been very happy with the outlaw.
  5. Very nice. I'm working on something similar now. I'm on 3rd attempt with first two in the scrap pile. Lol thanks for sharing.
  6. Toxo how did you join the gusset in the pics you shared? thanks to everyone for the info.
  7. My first try at a bag/purse. Im learning and in doing so creating an ever growing scrap pile. Sewing the gusset was an adventure. Got it totally backwards at first. Watched a few videos and learned the value of gluing first then sewing. Id like to expand the pattern and make a larger version of the bag. For now im trying smaller projects with no gusset.
  8. Ive noticed that when I burnish veg tanned leather this project is i think 6 oz. With my burnishing tool Im creating a little rolled edge that I dont really like. Can someone tell me what I might be doing wrong. Im using a little water burnishing stick then bees wax and canvas cloth.
  9. Now that I realize that there is an issue with grip to remove pistol from holster should I attempt to modify this holster or hang it up as a learning experience and start from scratch with another with more grip exposed? How do those who do these type projects regularly handle these situations?
  10. Im learning as I go. The pistol fits well but Ive got the front too high. Its very difficult to get hold of enough of the grip to get it out of the holster
  11. This is my first attempt at making a holster. Its a chest type holster for a ruger m III 22. The body is 8-10 veg tan and the lining is im guessing 4 from a box of scrap pieces. I made a pattern then cut out the leather by hand and sewed with my new cowboy outlaw sewing machine. I didnt attempt any stamping or design so its very plain. I did attempt wet molding but Im not thrilled with the result. I would like to use some type of natural oil or conditioner etc that will softly darken for the final finish and would appreciate any suggestions. Im very new and learning and would welcome any thoughts ideas etc on how to improve.
  12. thanks for the responses. I bought one from Mr. Bob at Toledo.
  13. Is there a different procedure for wet molding leather that has been stamped? I want to do some stamping on a holster but I also want to wet mold the holster. Chris
  14. Ive sanded the edges and am ready to start sewing. On the small parts that attach on the front of the bag should I go ahead and bevel and burnish the edges on those before I sew them onto the flap of the bag? I cant imagine how to burnish the edges on those once attached without marking up the surrounding area. Im wondering how much the look of the small parts will change and make them stick out from the rest of the bag. Since I cut them by hand I have to do somthing or they will look tacky.
  15. What kind of snap is that and where did you get them. All I’ve been able to find are standard line snaps.
  16. With leather this thick should I put inside to inside and do an exposed stitch or outside to outside then turn it back out?
  17. Yes 6-7 oz veg tan. I definitely should have thought about sanding. My cutting kinda looks like a 4 yr old with safety scissors.
  18. Working on my first real project. A saddle bag style purse bag. Im going to sew it on my cowboy outlaw. Question is before I begin to sew should I bevel the edges and or skive or shave the edges? Or to I mark my stitching groove stitch then do the edges?
  19. Hi there, Moulton, AL here. Im pretty new also.
  20. I just got my first pdf pattern. In process of putting onto stiffer backing. Question is when cutting out pattern should I cut exactly on the line or leave a little space for edges etc. never done this before and want to get started as right as possible. thank you chris
