  1. Looks like I'll be on my butt, foot up for the next couple months or more,,, ankle surgery,, old issue,, as well as getting old issue SO basic Q's for braiding needed,, want to get set up before I'm grounded,,,,will be limited for at least a month just getting around to gather tools, so looking to put a box of gear, ready and at hand or hooks length away... 1 or 2 good books reference's,, that cover ,trimming and covering items, and or whips, all the pinned post here, will be repeatedly viewed, any thought as to supplies,, for starters, size ,lengths, basic tools lacing, para cord, a couple of pieces of leather with holes for connecting two as in cases or seats, sides or panels something I can practice on and take apart many times to re braid and learn,,, only have a short window to gather the items and or order as in a week or so,,,,,if all the moons and star align,, insurance and doctors agree,,,, Thanks, and help me keep some sanity,,,,,really David

  11. Why splitter before skiver,,, if I have to order a hide I could have them split to uniform thickness?? first thought??? if a splitter a small bench top 6"-9"? or a larger 12"+?? powered ??? or what is a good compromise??? riveter a soon must I'm learning,,also
  12. Have several ways to sew light to heavy material, What is the best NEXT choice for the $$$ spent,, Skiver,,,, strap cutter,, splitter,,,Riveter looking to increase return on time and output,, not doing saddles, or holsters, but headed down the path of belt making, tack repair, and bag construction, chaps, limited tooling , not in a particular order, but as demand requires and the mind wonders skiver best first choice ??,,offers many ways to cleanly finish and fold as well as flex for bag corners?? strap cutter clearly increases production of belts, tack and long items.. hand cutting right now ?? splitter makes doubling layers easy to get thickness desired ?? Rivet setter makes setting easy as well as adding decorative spots and bling,, hammering them now ??? All will be needed at some point, but what is the path you have taken and why?? and how have you done some of your work and bypassed the investment and made things work?? as well as what your focus is,,,thanks David

  21. Before you have the first cut made,..... PLAN ,,,,go PAPER,, and lay out,,,, look,,,,,lay out ,,,look again,,all options and look again, think of how you will walk in the room ,and where you want to work,,, and what's stacked behind the door,,,lol,, and how you work, before you finalize any work space, drawers stacks left and right of main area,,,,tools left or right ,,, sewing,, finish ,,, IT WILL CHANGE,, hopefully not a lot from original plan,, also think about a folding attachment same height as bench to expand counter space for the times when you need to lay out a pattern on a side or large piece of material and easy to take down and store out of way or against the wall,, 8'x 2.5' is a nice area for a lot of things if you have a plan,Also look at overhead cabinets/shelves for more space over work area but set them higher than normal so not to interfere with the work bench but still be useful tape your work area out on the floor,,,,an sit at it and get a feel as to what you want and need and what works ,,,,,,, life size,,,,, stack some things there to get a feel of whats the right height or not use the space as best as you can with in reason just my 2 cents and its over priced at that,,, David
  22. I guess this is for one of each strap ??? An inventory of items might be adventitious and helpful??
