Knipshield knives work GREAT! He made a replacement knife for my Dixon plough guage and I've been very happy.

there is a solution but it is a pain in the butt. If worried, the shipper could pay the extra dollar and do a signature required. that forces you or someone to be home and to sign for it thereby ensuring it is not 'lost'. But that is an inconvience most people don't want. or they could force you to pick it up at the post office. same pain in the butt.

for $20, the tandy knife was a good grab to resell it on ebay later.

I;m doing a leather covered buckle class this Sat. at the Dallas Maker Space. Here is the sample buckle. I made a custom stamp for the class. I don't use those bulky metal inserts from the evil empire, just a buckle back onto an internal leather piece. It holds up well, gives it some rigidity without being uncomfortable and can be bent to shape easily. Once it's glued in, it holds the shape. Double loop lacing around it. Cheers!

I have a Jaws of life stamp already in my store, but added this one. It came just so much better.

A customer inspired stamp. (sorry, he paid for the privilege of keeping this private, so no redos for others) I just liked how it turned out and thought I'd share. cheers!

Is $200 for Tandy Deluxe Splitter a Good Deal?
Studio-N replied to kjcreamer's topic in Leather Tools
I thought they discontinued that model? It's a good deal in comparison to their regular rape price. The unit itself is not great. It's wide but have you ever tried to put an 8" piece thru one? You'd need a winch. Not to mention you need 3 hands. As for the blade, remember - they are 'factory' sharp which is not the same as sharp. Their smaller hi-tech spiltter does work better if what your main item is straps. I have one and never had a complaint (although I do remember seeing one or two be out of whack and cut unevenly). Cheers! -
This one was rejected by a recent customer but I did it anyway.

i think this is good advise for us all. cheers!

video showing how to do a bleed knot dog leash
Studio-N replied to gmace99's topic in How Do I Do That?
yeah that's pretty old school. I haven't done one since about 1994 when my old boss showed me. he told me he used to sell a lot of them back in the 70s. people like them because there is no rivet to pop loose. -
It works because it is NOT a tandy product. It is made by Fennis (Italian company). they did a great disservice when the labeled them with the eco-foo-foo brand. I had people that wouldn't go near it because they already knew eco was crap. It took a lot of convincing to convert some users. But I agree - it is good stuff. That and the Pro oil dyes are all I'll use. Cheers!

these are offically retired after today. whoever wins - we lose. may God have mercy on our souls.

their specials are usually nothing special.

do the math. the leather is 10 oz (10/64th). the snap ring thickness is probably 2/64th. You need a good 1/8" to roll over nicely and hold well. And any material you're lining with. So - 10+2+8 is 20/64th or 5/16th as a minimum without having to fight it. Larger with a lining material. so the 25/64 Tinker mentioned should work. and you can always snip them smaller for thin work.

that's new. they never used to give military discounts. But now that thompson is out and a more human crew is running the joint, it's good to see it.
-
yes, 1" tall (angled) and about 1.25" long.
-
the latigo is generally a good quality. nice and flexable, but I don't think it goes beyond their 8/10 oz offering.

If you're going to hand pick it yourself you may find a good thick hide. 92" and up is harder to find these days since everyone seems to be taking the cows quite young. should be able to get around 16-18 good straps from the spine down. the belly is not usally very good and is usually lighter in weight. cheers!

thank you all

ok, so the last brain model was universally disliked. So I redid it myself rather than rely on an internet model. It certainly has more of that Orsen Wells look we all expect. Cheers! I'm off to..... TAKE OVER THE WORLD
-
it 'might' be 10 oz, but I've never seen that stock to actually be 12 oz. Expect it to be dry and hard.

thank you. I may redo the Brain model. It is one I found on the web. I made the Pinky from scratch. Gotta try to add more depth to Brian. Zort!
