  1. from the dark knight series - the joker's saying.
  2. Hello. This is a bit off topic, but I just wanted to show you can always find an alternative to a more expensive solution. I wanted to organize a toolbox drawer with some of my leatherworking tools so I went down to Sears to look since I had seen it there before. Cost was $20 for one drawer's worth of foam. Sounded a bit much. Fortunately I stopped at Harbor freight today to pick up some goggles and spotted an Anti-Fatique mat for $9 which was about the same consistancy of foam. It was just a bit thinner but would work for these tools. It is 12 SQ feet which is enough to do 6 drawers. It laser cut well with minimal smell. And with the diamond plate surface, it looks nicer than regular foam. Cheers! (OH BTW, you don't have to point out how anal it is to be so organized. I already know it )
  3. Had time to try this one. I'm happy with the results. It's 1.25" so it should expand easily. Cheers!
  4. Hello. Yes, it is a stamp I made. It is made from delrin and is laser engraved.
  5. I was enjoying lunch today and thanking the big guy for it so I decided to do this one. cheers!
  6. you're right. I didn't really see he wanted to fade it. Airbrush is a good way to do it. And if money is not an issue the best airbrush to use is a dual action airbrush. Single action airbrushes go 100% flow when you press the trigger. A dual action gets the air flowing when you press the trigger but zero flow. You control the flow as you pull the same trigger back. Gives you a lot of control and option. You can fade a line as you go across it in any direction and back to full in the same swipe. Iwata is a good brand. Cheers!
  7. Couple of ways - 1) the airbrush is still a good suggestion. 2) You can resist the area you want to keep natural by using lacquer or a clear acrylic (clear lac or super sheen). Paint it on where you want to keep natural. HOWEVER - you can't use a dye. It will burn thru. You'll have to use a stain. 3) There was a thread on here years ago about using a brush on rubber masking substance that would resist the dye and then could be rubbed off later. Best of luck.
  8. New stamp just for fun. Been wanting to do this as a stamp for a while. this one is 1.25" wide but I think I might make it larger for a wallet back.
  9. I have an abundance of 2mm leather lace. I'm just wondering what kind of other projects it might be good for. So far I've got: woven bracelet, barbed wire, and necklace. Any other thoughts?
  10. Had a slow day so I though I'd work on something new. This is my latest stamp. It is 1.25" wide and about 1" tall. It would be nice if it reduced so that I could include it as part of a maker stamp, but, it would have to reduce at least 60% and I don't think the line lines would hold up. Anyway, thanks for looking.
  11. It is probably easiest if you can sell it as a package. Piecing it out brings in more money but it is a lot of work and it takes a lot of time. You will things that go quick and you will have those pieces that will linger forever. Your best bet is to create some inventory sheets and put a realistic figure next to it and total it up (but allow for some discounting since no one wants to pay full retail). You can lump somethings together probably (loose hardware for instance). And remember there is always the estate sale or auction route to consider. Best of luck and enjoy your retirement.
  12. thank you. looks like you're the only one that liked it.
  13. Finished veg is difficult to case but not impossible. You will probably have to soak it so that it absorbs from the back side. The two problems with this is it will take forever to dry and may trap some water (stain) between the leather and the finish. But it will take water (it's water resistant after all but not water proof). you should be able to stamp it after that but it will take a bit of muscle. I doubt you can tool it without beating yourself to death. If you haven't cut off too much, and the evil empire store may take it back minus a premium.
  14. ordered 3 quarts of ClearLac which is 8 lbs. Cost of shipping $6 since it was over $50. Arrived in 2 days. Always happy with SLC.
  15. Hello. This was an experiment in a low relief on a CNC cut plate in delrin. I don't get a lot of time to experiment these days with the Xmas season in full force. But I snuck this one it. It is based on an Angry emoticon. Yeah, I know - he kind of looks like the M&M guys. Once he's painted up he should look pretty good. This is 3" tall. I tried making a small one on the laser but it was a massive failure. Lasering just doesn't work too well for 3D work. Anyway, it does open up some variations in all the other emoticon faces. cheers!
  16. Well you know...... If it is in fact illegal and corp does nothing. File a complaint with the DAs office. They'll have to answer then.
  17. You need to contact Tandy management about that. They should not have done that. It is simply considered a loss against the stores profit. How was it charged on your receipt? It is an item # that was not received then that was illegal. AND if was an item #, you should do a 'return' of that item. But definitely put a stop on the CC. What store was it?
  18. I agree with SantaFeMarie 100%. Decoration is easy. Whether you beat it with a chain, spray paint on it, or tool and stamp it, all that is secondary to first making a well built item. I think you'll find that leather work construction is pretty straight forward. Oh there are things you have to watch out for, but a well built item looks good on it's own.
  19. super nice. the FD concho snap is a nice finishing touch.
