$20. here's a link

I have done up to a 9x10" plate with a 1 ton arbor press. The thing is you can't do it all at once. I start in one corner and press. Move over 1" (the size of the ram) and press. Rinse and repeat until you've covered the entire area. Yes, yes I know - it's time consuming but unless you want to spend a bunch of money on a hydraulic press, take the time. Additionally, a friend over at salty dog leather is making these add-ons for the arbor press which might help. cheers!

best to group them, take and post lots of pictures. the favorable round, square, and product related will go fast. The odd shapes- not so much. And there is always ebay and craigslist.
-
one trick you can try is to seal the stamps with whatever you got - lacquer, supersheene, etc. that way it will not leave metal residue behind. I don't know how many strikes you can do before you have to reseal them but it should get you thru one project at least.

Funny/sad Story About Tandy Leather...
Studio-N replied to Dougster's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
they would if they gave a crap. but they don't. It may change under the new regime but I'm a skeptic. -
well that's an equivelant of $2400 US. Seems like you could get it shipped from the US and still come way under that. but you'd have to get it direct from Tippmann. The evil empires has their stupid rules that no store can sell to Europe except one of the European stores. -nick

the evil empire carried these for years. They discontinued it because they were going to introduce their own manual sewing machine. It actually looked pretty nice. But, Tippmann sued and won over copyright infingements so it never made it to the shelves. So of course the evil empire was pissed and wouldn't carry it again. Now that the CEO has been ousted, and sanity has been restored into the management stream it looks like they will carry it again because they know they have to offer some kind of sewing machine. The price is $1495 on Tippmann's website which is the only way I know to direct order. Tippmann used to offer a discount around Christmas time, so hopefully they'll do that again. If I remember right the evil empire used to buy these from Tippmann for about $900 so there should be plenty of margin for discounting. cheers!

a book press should work great. it gives an even pressure to any die. cheers!

the Fiebings Green Oil Dye is an excellent color. Check with Springfield leather, they carry all the colors of Oil Dye.

the smell will fade. it just takes time.

The largest I every made was from a 96" strap for an 80" waist. Obviously it was cut from a side. I have saved off the longest part of that hide (maybe 10" width) for those special people that may need one that large again ('cause it sure is difficult to find them that large anymore).
-
Conservatively, you should have 24" width to work with which give you 16 straps out of that - around $9 /strap. You should be able to get a good profit on your investment.

Alien Vs Predator Stamp (Because Sci-Fi Is Cool)

finally getting the bugs worked out the metal cutting process. this is a sample maker stamp cut in metal (aluminum in this case) on my home CNC machine. It stamped and pressed very well. It definitely takes longer and there are certainly more limitations to what can be done. Mostly it's in the spacing between letters and with the bit fitting between them. I'm hoping to be able to do this by summer time but I'll be in school 4 days a week so it's going to be on a limited basis. Anyway, just wanted to share. Cheers!

this post is a good example. it shows up 8 (now 9) times when one would do. this is the only thing I don't like about the new format. So as a result, many topics go unread because after about 5 pages I just quit looking and mark everything read.

I have to say I really miss the topics being grouped.

0.5 tonne press okay for stamping?
Studio-N replied to Artificial Intelligence's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
A half ton works fine. A one ton works betters. My only modification might be to lengthen the handle for a little more leverage and pressure. -
Ray, I'll definately take the Sailor Jerry book. I've recently gotten into converting some of those to stamps. Let me know how to pay you (paypal?). -nick
-
thank you. me too.

Hello. It's been a bit since I've had time to experiment but here is another Sailor Jerry style stamp. It's 1.25" tall. It's kind of difficult to do a proper face at that small size, but I think this came out pretty well. cheers!

Thinking Of Buying A Manual Embossing Machine. Opinions?
Studio-N replied to Mike516's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Not a lot of choice out there now that Tippmann and the evil empire have both dropped their embossers. There are some makers of embossers at the commercial level but you're looking at a lot more money. However, here is a different one I saw on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Leather-Embossing-Machine-NEW-Custom-made-in-USA-/272163084172 -

try www.vectormagic.com you get two free conversions. They do a good job. I've used them for some real tough conversions that CorelDraw couldn't handle. cheers!
