  1. Hallyth, if you are ever in the Birmingham area gimme a shout, I don't drive so getting about can be awkward, especially in rural places, I will help where I can
  2. Where in the Midlands are you Hallyth?
  3. Whereabouts are you Mart?
  4. How lucky are you!! No one in my family has done leatherwork before so all my tools etc I have had to buy, I would love & cherish something like that what had been made by a relative.
  5. Hello from the Midlands
  6. I think Matt hit the nail on the head there, the newer Dixons pricking irons do seem to have larger teeth, the last time I bought a new one (many moons ago) I asked if they could make the teeth smaller, I used to be able to call into the factory & often took a piece of leather with marks punched to give them an idea of what I wanted, they were always happy to adjust the tool & it only took a few minutes, I've not bought from them in a long time so don't know what they are like now, but they were always very helpful & friendly when I was buying my tools. These days I tend to look out for old pricking irons, they do have much finer teeth.
  7. I have bought off that guy several times & found him to deal with.
  8. Check Bruce Johnson's site, http://brucejohnsonleather.com
  9. Hi Era, your shoulders should be sold by the square foot so you can work out the material costs from that, then you must add on what you are comfortable charging for your time & other consumables, ie dyes, finishes etc.
  10. Tor thank you so much for this link I have been wanting a copy of this book for years
  11. I have some small punches spare & was wondering about getting them cut in half to use to make crinckled edges.
  12. I don't think I would skive the leather at the spine as it may weaken it. However If you want it to bend better you could try gouging 2 or 3 lines down the spine area to ease the bend slightly. Hope this makes sense.
  13. Thanks Widget I really like this

  15. I have a double ended swivel knife blade, with a recess in the centre that looks like somewhere for a screw to sit, I wonder if its for 1 of those?
  16. I bought another kit recently that also had the insides pre-assembled, Im not sure if it wasnt the passport wallet. I agree with you on that Harag it was really disappointing, I got it wwhen it was on sale & certainly wouldnt pay full price for it.
  17. I have a maverick wallet kit, all of the interior comes ready assembled, all there is to do with this 1 is tool the outside & lace it all together....I was quite disapointed as I usually make patterns from the pieces to before assembly so I can make another from scratch if I want to.
  18. Welcome Jem!! I think Gary has just about hit the nail on the head , there are quite alot of members on here from the UK & there was talk of trying to organise a meet of somekind a while back but nothing has been decided yet.

Harag, I use Thor rawhide mallets, they come in several different sizes, Ive found 3 & 4 work best for me, I do have a 5 but find it uncomfortable to use, Im always getting moaned at for hammering & am thinking of trying to get an off cut of rubber stable matting to put under my box stack that I work on....can only try
