You don't need a stitching pony, I've been making things for over 10 years and never used one. As for UK suppliers, thy googling 'Le Prevo' and 'The Identity Store'. I can heartily recommend The Identity Store, they are in Matlock and have some great people, very helpful.

I would dearly love to have a Tandy near us. There's only one in the whole of Australia and that's in NSW. Here in Brisbane we have a great place for leather - East Coast Leather, very good prices and they know their stuff, but they ONLY do leather. No hardware, not even a buckle, and no tools. Mac Lace do hardware and tools but have a limited range, so sometimes I have to order from Tandy despite the shipping costs which are high in Aus. If Tandy were closer I'd be a regular visitor.

Doesn't have to be so fancy, it's the strap positioning that they like, and which I can't find elsewhere. Other center plates seem to only have right angles. And no, it's not for horses

I noticed the same recently with Cobblestone spirit-based dyes. I'm trialing a new leather balm for my leather supplier which is really working well. I would give you the name but they haven't printed the labels yet To cut a long story short though, the spirit dyes really do need something to treat the leather with afterwards

Well, I made the thing and it turns out it's about a size 14-16 Australian (10-12 US I think) First attempt to use an airbrush (only bought the compressor and kit last night) so it's a trial of that too

Saw these clips on a site recently and love them. Has anyone got any ideas as to where I can find them, or something similar? They would go perfect on some of my projects.

I've only really known people to do this with a hot stamp, basically a brand rather than stamping it. I've not done it myself though

I've made myself a pattern for a Steampunk costume harness and since this is the first real pattern I've made from scratch I am a bit flummoxed as to how to resize the pattern for customers outside the adjustment range. I've added pics of the prototype (it's in some scrap-bin leather with lace instead of buckles and was purely a proof of concept) so you can see how it goes together - 2 front panels, a back panel and a curved panel going under the arm.

My wife just looked over and said "That's beautiful! You should do more like that..." Thanks bud... LOL it is beautiful, and from the looks of it I'm gonna have to start learning to do flowers now!

Yep, you've certainly fixed my problems quickly and simply in the past - and I must admit the biggest of them was the one turning the crank Waiting for the leather shop to reopen here after their xmas break but as soon as I get back to work I'll call you

I have one of the Able 290's, bought at Steamfest last year. The only real issue I have is trying to figure out how to do larger items one-handed so I can actually turn the crank! For the money it's a great machine. Sure, I'd like a cylinder bed with a walking foot but my budget is minimal and this does the job. Maybe not as well as the fancy machines, but it does do the job

Good to see you! The 290 I got at Steamfest is still going strong, though I may have to call you about a prob with the bobbin holder skipping. Not sure what I'm doing wrong with it this time, but your help always solves my issues! Very good bloke, highly recommended to the Aussies on here

Most of my designs are my own hand-drawn patterns, but when someone requests a 'classic style' satchel "like this one" which I got yesterday, I thought it'd be nice to actually get a decent pattern rather than trial-and-error it as I normally do.

Hey there I'm in Australia and I'm looking for a load of those little hide shaped 'genuine leather' tags, does anyone know where I can get them? Doesn't have to be Aussie although obviously I'd prefer the postage My wife has a bee in her bonnet about them, mainly because she remembers seeing them on items in the past and sees them as a symbol to trust that what is being sold is proper leather, and with the sheer number of fake/processed 'leather' items coming in from Asia these days anything that makes ours stand out from the imports is worth a little investment. If you start at the bottom of the envelope then it's easy enough. Make the stitch loosely with the flap held open and then tighten. If you're careful you'll easily get it done without needing special needles.
