  1. Glad you are here. nice work!
  2. quote "My Minimum Quantity is 11,000 SQUARE Feet..." That's ALOT of leather! I doubt anyone here would buy that much at a time....unless you own a commercial production factory. Good Luck.
  3. Hey all, got me a brand new Artisan Toro 3000....woo hoo!! Been wanting a cylinder bed machine for some time now. After doing alot of research of the machines available, I decided the best bang for the buck is the Artisan. It has an excellent range of thread size and material capabilities. I have sewn on the Adler 205/370 and Juki 441, both top notch machines, but more than I was willing to spend. The Artisan should fit my needs perfectly. I had the machine shipped direct from Artisan in the Los Angeles area, and Steve was the customer service person. Excellent in all aspects! I would recommend talking to him if you have any interest in this type of machine. Before I placed the order, I asked ALOT of questions, and Steve very patiently answered them all. Great folks to deal with!
  4. I had some scraps of hair-on cowhide that I thought I would try as a cell case trim. The basketweave can be a pain in small areas. Here is the completed cell case. The pattern is from The Leather Factory. Not a bad kit, but I don't use the leather that comes with it,....too flimsy in my opinion, especially if you want to tool/carve. Tim
  5. Thanks Electrathon ! ..I never tried "lefty"braiding ,
  6. I like the Celtic designs, although I have never attempted any. Looks good!
  7. This is a custom ordered tank panel I completed for a Harley Fat Boy motorcycle. The customer had a seat covered in the wrinkle look cowhide and had enough left over for a matching tank panel. His bike has an Indian theme, so he requested the buffalo nickle and horse hair trim. I double layered the panel to get the right thickness. I decided to hand braid the edges and also the concho so it would all match. With fourteen horses here on our farm, it is always easy to "hand pick" the right color!
  8. Good job!! Very nice work! We are glad you are here!
  9. SUPER nice, David!! I wish I had the patience to braid that way!
  10. Nice job! Are the leaf designs embossed?
  11. Very nice, Dan, especially the frame!
  12. Look for harness leather and more at www.newbigbook.com There are alot of listings and a great resource for all leather related items. Unfortunatley the days of low leather prices seem to be a thing of the past. I buy from Wickett. Quality and service is good and you can buy one or two sides at a time. Other tanneries may have a slightly lower price, but there are usually 10 side minimums. I shopped around pricing the types of leather I use and for decent hides you will pay close to the same anywhere. Good luck!
  13. Thanks! I suppose recovering a new seat would make sense. That way, I would already have a pattern with minimal changes to be made. I'll look for one.
  14. Came across an ebay listing that has a reasonable price on a seat pan. Item # 180151109278 The pan is made by LaRosa designs. Anyone have any input on quality, etc.? The seller also has finished solos that are built on that particular pan. Looked pretty nice. Beeza? what do ya think? Tim
  15. John, Ghost brackets & Easy brackets are available for specific models. The bracket is a quick on/off system that the leather bag is attached to. You can do a web search abd get the details. They are a great way to mount bags, but are about $150. pair. What model bike are they being built for?
  16. Post a pic when you get 'em finished! At first glance the bag looks alot like an Aussie saddle accessory. Are you planning on using Ghost brackets at the mounting points?
  17. Thanks Beeza!...the hand braiding is something I don't do very often,..just don't like the time involved, although I do like the end results!
  18. Thanks, Freak! The feather design is from an old original I drew and had an embossing plate made.
  19. Hi all, Thought I would post a couple new tank panels I finished today. This style/size panel fits the Harley Softail models. I usually make 'em with pockets for storage, but some customers want the "flat" version as shown here. On a bike with the right paint or theme, the tank panel really completes the look!
  20. I buy from Wickett & Craig. Great customer service and no minimums. http://www.wickett-craig.com Good Luck with your projects!
  21. Thanks for the kind words! I have been doing leather for about 30 years. The colors I use are applied with the airbrush. I use a dye that is made for the shoe industry. Tim
  22. Thanks, Ed ! I haven't tried a different needle plate. The problem I have with gluing latigo is that with the extra oil in the leather the glue doesn't bond like vag tan.
