  1. My first question to the plantiff would have been why were you carrying a fire arm into the court house in the first place? and my second would have been why are you carrying a firearm with a chambered cartridge and not on safe? dont sound like faulty manufacturing to me, sounds more like a case of the gun handler not having safe gun handling skills to me. 2. so in other words disclaimers of liability are not worth the paper they are printed on? maker cannot be held liable for general stupidity of the user can they?
  3. LOL Lawyers will see I dont have enough money to make it worth while and will leave me alone
  4. Looks more like leafy Colorado floral Ya What my good buddy Wild Bill said
  5. That is VERY COOL!
  6. The above all good advice! Man-O-Man I long for the day I can afford a cobra class 4 machine, the only way to meet any kind of cost effective production time. however I have yet to see a sewing machine that can make a double loop lace or a mexican basket weave. you mentioned you was not overly fond of border lacing but you will have customers who will want their projects laced so you might want to take the time to learn the double loop and mexican basket weave with that said you can produce a nice saddle stitch in the same time frame as lacing up a project. Stick with simple projects like the ones you mentioned unlined belts, guitar straps, holsters, sheathes, phone cases, bill folds, bible covers focus on leather goods that do not require massive amounts of sewing until you can work up the funds to invest in a good machine a double shoulder of8-9 OX Veg tan leather will render several belts, guitar straps, holsters and knife sheathes. items like billfolds will require a light weight veg tan. Springfield Leather is a good supplier for leather and tools. get a wholesale membership for a bigger savings I would also mention I have seen some very good quality leather working tools coming out of Japan for several years now Keyoshin Elle i think is the name brand. I have also seen that Tandy is making an effort to making their Crafttool line better quality and CSosborne is always going to be a quality tool.
  7. send me all your lead I cast my own bullets
  8. NICE! Great Job, I like it.
  9. I would say you have a piece of harness leather although it is veg tanned it has beef tallows to make it more impervious to water it will take a stamp without casing it is just not the best tooling leather.
  10. Ya the guy is already on my ignore list the person wrote me in a pm titled: mauls "I wouldn't post this publicly, but privately I find your assertions about the advantages of mauls in tooling to be ridiculous in light of the examples of your tooling as shown in your gallery which are pathetic." I had a few choice words for them before I hit the ignore button. anyway heres the billfolds I made.
  11. You might contact the local Tandy Leather Factory store and ask if they have classes.
  12. Joe Very nice Big Ass Wallet you made there and thanks for the instructions I like the file format too I made something similar to that except for I put 8 card slots on one side. it is made longer and wider to accomidate the card pockets and it can also double as a check book wallet I would post a pic but another member of this forum informed me by PM that my work is pathetic so I will not suffer any of you by posting any of my eyesores.

  14. Ah yes I remember the days before The Leather Factory bought the Tandy brand. that is when they were pushing the rawhide mallets I don't even think Tandy Leather even offered a maul back when I first started going to Tandy Leather on Brainerd Road as a kid. the first maul I had was a home made maul given to me by an old saddle maker who taught me the craft. also had a big heavy industrial foot pedal type Singer sewing machine that was converted to electric and man that thing sewed Sewww SWEET! (Wish I still had it!) it was a top notch machine for how old it was.also had a bunch of other fantastic leather working tools and stamps you can only find if you are lucky (long gone). But anyway I think there comes a point when someone finally tries a maul and instantly sees how much better it is for tooling/stamping and even setting hardware.(Although I do use mine for that on occasion) I don't recommend using your nice expensive tooling mauls for setting hardware, a good cheapo Harbor freight 2 pound rubber dead blow hammer is better for that task. I do know some folks who use all three different weighted BK mauls depending on what kind of stamping/tooling they are doing I have a heavy hand already so the one pounder works pretty well for me on any stamping I may be doing.
  15. Howdy and welcome from Rossville Georgia
  16. welcome from Georgia USA
  17. ya the faster it spins the hotter it will get I have had leather smoking and the needle turning colors theyve been so hot when I use my drill press I set it on its slowest speed, afterwards I will use the diamond shaped awl blade.
  18. you can also fold up a big towel and place it under your marble, this will help to silence the blows a bit as well, if you do decide to use a d dremel dont use it on a high speed for it will burn the leather while making the hole. I used to use a dremmel tool for those stitch holes that had a thick welt but I found that one of those little HF bench top drill presses work better because they don't bog down like a dremel will at slow speeds. still though the best results I get is with using a good sharp stitching awl with a stitching clamp just sharing my experience.
  19. order your tools from springfield leather they are less expensive and you can save a good deal with their wholesale club membership plus the barry king mauls are better quality than the al stholman mauls I use the 1 pound maul but thats just me.
  20. Striga Mort as BDAZ said the dead blow hammer will still have its place in your leather shop for setting snaps and other hardware
  21. I am partal to the one pounder, the two pounder wears my arm out.
  22. Striga mort just trying to keep you from postponing the inevitable cause once you try one of the little one pound mauls it will be all over at that point but seriously a maul will give you the most consistancy in your stamping not only with the depth of the impression but the placement accuracy is increased with less stress on the hand. so ya although pricey buying a maul will be a beneficial addition to your leatherworking tool collection
  23. I know what the OP said and I dont think your comment was called for I tried adding weight to a mallet and it dont work very well thus the reason for my comment Like I should have to write an explaination for my comment in the first place
  24. I was going to sat it looks like a covered McClellan.
